On Saturday I got my tickets to see Prince in Boston on August 17. It's upper level, but I'm in. Plus, the stage is in the middle, so I won't be too far. He hasn't toured in six years. I've seen Springsteen, U2, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, and more, but have never seen Prince live. Can't wait. Though seeing Prince in 2004 could be like seeing Elvis live in 1977----probably a few years past their peak, but it's still Prince. I was going to make a thread called "Favorite Prince Song" but couldn't single out just one myself. So many. Raspberry Beret, Kiss, Let's Go Crazy, Little Red Corvette, heck, I even thought "Batdance" was cool. Any favorite songs?
Are you thinking of the Elvis 1968 special? Elvis' last concert (according to www.elvis.com) was June 26, 1977. I suspect Prince will make it through the year, PLUS he still has his girlish figure.
Of course, he was supposed to do a show August 17 in Portland, ME. I'm sure pieman had tickets. Alas, he expired on August 16. [/tangent unrelated to Prince]
EDITed to point out the August 17 coincidence. Spooky.

Prince fucking rules and if anyone disagrees, faces WILL be cut. I see he is coming to Grand Rapids, MI. I hope they'll add Detroit soon or else I'll have to go to GR.

Alas, JayJay, the pielad was heading into his senior year of high school that summer and was not into the King at that point. It wasn't cool to be liking Elvis right around then if you were a teenager. I was spending much time listening to David Bowie, Queen and the Ohio Players. I am sure DEAN~! was, too.
Back on topic, Prince is without a doubt the most talented musician on the planet. And, with his band, can play any style, and if this is indeed the last time he will play the "hits" live, you owe yourself to see him live. Absolutely the best concert I have ever been to. I am waiting the word that they are on sale here in St Louis, and I will be shelling out whatever it takes to see the man!
