My eyesight has been bothering me for a few months now (blurred vission, headaches after going to the movies or reading, etc). So, I got a perscription for glasses and picked them up today.
Since putting them on, and walking around, I have been getting a feeling almost like motion sickness. I have also notices flat surfaces appear to be slanted to the left (counters, the stove, etc) is this 'normal' for a first time wearer of eye glasses?
It can be...if the prescription is right you should get used to it. If it's been a few days to a week, I'd call your optometrist. Most of them will re-do the prescription for you, to get it right.
...just watch the stairs for a while...it can screw up your depth perception too.
Stagger... I've worn glasses since I was 12. You're going to feel all weird and out of sorts for the first week or so. This will repeat itself, though not as extreme, whenever you get a stronger RX. It's just your eyes adjusting to new clarity of vision and depth perception. Totally normal. Enjoy seeing clearly.

THanks guys! Its a bit of an adjustment to them, but I am getting better with it. Only had them for wo days, and yesterday was just throwing me off BIG TIME. I was afraid I was really jacked up for years and didnt know it!
The motion sickness has went away, and I didnt have a headache after leaving the movies last night like I had been for a few years now.
I grew 18 inches in about 20 months back when I was 16. When I came back for Junior year, I was flunking everything. So my Mom took me to the Optomitrist. Wow! But my presription hasn't really changed since then. I did hve to go to Bifocals a few years ago.
You'll get used to it.
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
THe most important thing to do when it comes odwn to wearing new glases: don't wear them ALL THE TIME if you're new to them: get used to them...put them on for a bit, then take them off so that your eyes can get used to the enhanced vision. Same goes for newer prescriptions.
When I had my new prescription, I had a headache for the first day, simply because my eyes weren't used to the change in focus and sharpness. (My former prescription was six years old, give or take) To solve that, every time my eyes started to hurt, I switched from my newer prescription to my older one over the course of 72 hours...until my eyes were fully comfortable with the new set.
Welcome to the world of glasses, though! I've been wearing glasses since I was eight years old; and I need to get new lenses every two years. It's kind of expensive, and it's unfortuanate that some company-based health premiums don't cover eyecare needs.
The glasses arent so bad now, but I am still wondering why things look slanted. Right now, if I look down at my keyboard, the left side looks like its on a slope downwards.
Lucky for me, I can buy vision insurance at work for about 2bucks a month, and they paid for my exam, frames and lenses. I can get new lenses next year and frames after two years. All for only a $25 co-pay.
