Wow. Two of my all-time favourite TV shows get made into videogames and released the same week. Furthermore, they'll both probably blow really hard, but I will still have to try them both.

Wait, you're not talking about THAT "Cho Aniki", are you?

Parquet Wishes and Leprechaun Dreams

The most hilarious thing about Tommy Dreamer is that everyone else in WWE, from Shelton Benjamin to dudes who haven't even debuted yet, has a T-shirt available. WWE doesn't even bother printing up a T-shirt for Tommy Dreamer, A MAN WHOSE GIMMICK IS WEARING A T-SHIRT WHILE WRESTLING. And why is that? Because not a god damn person would ever pay money for a Tommy Dreamer shirt. Not even his own mother. As a result he usually ends up wearing a shirt that says "WRESTLEMANIA 24" or "JUDGEMENT DAY." I think it's time for Tommy Dreamer to just print up a T-shirt that says "UPCOMING PAY PER VIEW"

The Hell's Kitchen video was the first thing I watched on the Nintendo Channel. It looks dreadful.

(Hey, we got a Wii. Hooray)

It really does. I'll try it anyway but I bet it is terrible. And I bet the forthcoming Iron Chef America game won't be any good either.

Side note: apparently Batista was a judge on Iron Chef America this weekend.

The Cho Aniki that's available for download was a Japan-only release being made available in North America for the first time - I don't know anything else about it so I don't know if it's THAT Cho Aniki or not.

VC Japan (Tuesday, September 9)
- Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana; Super Famicom, 1-3 players, 800 Wii Points)
- Hokuto no Ken: Shin Seikimatsu Kyuuseishu Densetsu (Last Battle; Mega Drive, 1 player, 700 Wii Points)
- Final Blaster (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points)

Well, I did a little research and HOLY CRAP it IS "that" Cho Aniki ... kind of.

Filled with images of nearly naked men striking suggestive poses in pretty much every cutscene, game level and credits sequence, the Cho Aniki games intentionally put their shock value on parade. The games' central characters, Samson and Adon, are musclebound bodybuilders who wear nothing but Speedos and a smile, and position themselves provocatively at every possible opportunity. The games never completely cross the line into outright pornographic imagery, but they seem to take pride in getting as close to that threshold as possible.

How this game has managed only an E10+ Rating boggles the mind.

Interestingly, though, for all the reputation the rest of the series has earned over the years, this first installment in the series -- the original Cho Aniki from the Japanese version of the TurboGrafx-CD -- isn't all that explicit. It was the later Cho Aniki sequels that really pushed the envelope, and this first game simply clocks in somewhere around "really odd."

The story finds that the grand emperor of Planet Builder (who has enjoyed his success for 10 straight years as the galaxy's reigning bodybuilding champion) has begun to run low on his precious muscle-building supplement, protein. Fearing the inevitable loss of his championship title due to his lack of a proper supporting diet for his workouts, he's launched an invasion force against the surrounding planets to capture all of their protein reserves and bring them back to him for his personal consumption.

The emperor and his invaders, of course, are all nearly naked men.

If I were a betting man, there would have been hundreds of titles I would have wagered hitting American shores via the Virtual Console before I would've guessed Cho Aniki ...

My roommates want it - I couldn't care less if I had to. The thing my roommate really wants though is the expansion franchise feature - name your team and city, expansion draft and all that crap like in NBA Live 2000 for the PS1.
