Sounds pretty interesting (having circles of friends and instantly uploading photos/videos from my Droid X might prove useful), but Google has abandoned so many projects or left them to wither and die on the vine - Buzz, Lively, etc. - that I'm not yet convinced this is going to be THE NEXT BIG THING(tm Paul Heyman) in social networking.

Of course, that still won't stop me from begging for invites here ... ;)

The thing about social networking is that by nature you need all your friends to be using the same thing. I've heard some people express confusion about why MySpace stopped being popular. It was because there were things that were annoying about it that they never bothered to improve that Facebook did better. Google+ may take market share in the same way, but I don't see anything about it that seems like such obvious improvements to me.

Ok, I've got invites. Who wants them? Send me a private message with your email address and I'll pay it forward.

Ok, to those of you who sent me messages I will invite you as soon as invitations are allowed again. Usually every 18 hours or so I'm noticing.

I would like one. My wife and brother have apparently not invited me yet.

Word to the wise.

Be aware of what visibility you are assigning to information in your profile.

I had a dude follow me. I didn't recognise the name so I checked out his profile. And there for me to see was his work email address and phone number, as well as his home phone number.

So, you know, care and diligence.

I got one this week;
It's like facebook and twitter had (CONSENSUAL!) sex and had a baby that grew up to be a lady's man... and an olympic track star.

It runs at optimal speeds like their search engine and Chrome, I like it.

*
oh and to add to BIG G's comments; you can choose which circles see what information... so remember not to leave anything like phone numbers, location and private email address as "Public"... you can easily set it so only friends and family can view these and managing who is in those circles is as simple as checking a box or dragging and dropping depending what screen you're on.

I think it's useless. Redundant. Superfluous. Maybe 3 of my friends are on there, but I hear from them on Facebook, Twitter, and in real life all the time. Without your friends, what kind of social network is Google+? One I don't need.

I'm not canceling mine, in case a cultural shift happens and suddenly everyone stampedes to Google+. But Facebook works just fine; I ain't got no problems with Facebook.

I leave Google+ to the hipsters on there to enjoy.

A lot of my college buddies and I have been using Google+ as a way to share links and short messages with each other without crowding our inboxes. On Facebook, it's annoying to message only a few friends with something. Also, only some of my friends use Facebook. ALL of my friends use Gmail, so having messages to them show up in the top right corner of Gmail is very nice.

So, I'm using both right now. Facebook for sharing photos and keeping in touch with family and 2nd and 3rd tier "friends," and Google+ for talking with my closer friends who I'd normally just email with.

An old high school friend gave me an invite, and I think I have a few to give out, too - so if anyone wants to check it out, fire me a PM.

I don't really see the point of the service, personally.

Will that work for streaming video? Because that's usually the only time I have to deal with it. I know sometimes they make it difficult to save to disk, so that's the only thing I worry about.
