I remember clearly watching the first Superman film in the theatre with my dad. I was six years old, and the music and casting and effects just worked for me. Lex tries to destroy California. Lois falls off the Daily Planet building. Superman lets the train RUN OVER HIM. I was gobsmacked. I was mesmerized. I wore the stupid towel around my neck for months.

So when I see this fine piece of work, liberally using pieces from the first Superman film, I'm not annoyed. I'm not indignant. I hear that Williams music, I see the red cape flying, I see the crowds look to the skies for a hero. They got me.

Even if the film is utter crap, it's given me that sense of wonder again just from a cobbled chunk of pictures and sound.

I'm six years old again, man. I'm mesmerized.

I don't know, it's going to take more than recycling Marlon Brando to get me excited about the film. What they showed looked great, if you take out the actors. Last I checked, Smallville wasn't in the OC...

I like that they're using John Williams' score and basically the same continuity. After what Singer did with X-Men, I have faith that he can get the job done, but I'm reserving any anxiety over whether it'll suck until I see the film. I think it's that Superman costume has me a little worried, and I have no idea who this Brandon Routh guy is (might be a good thing).

My only problem with the teaser is that it seemed to rely too much on teasing things we've already seen. We've already seen the Daily Planet on the big screen, and we've relived Clark Kent's life on the Kent farm (especially every week on the WB). I don't think it's as special as it was in the intro that was Superman: The Movie to show these things again. I'd rather have been teased with other images from the movie.

EDIT: It's just a teaser, I know.

I quit being psyched about this upcoming film when I found out quite awhile back that Tim Burton stepped away from directing the movie because the studio wanted to make it alot less expensive than Burton intended to make it at. (Of course the film not being filmed in Pittsburgh like originially planned kinda pissed me off too.)

After hearing some of the things Burton wanted to do with Superman, its probably a blessing he never did the movie. Say what you will about this teaser trailer, but we are better off with this one.

I don't think Burton's exit had much to do with Batman and Robin, but more to do with that they knew they were royally fucking up the project and they had possibly another Batman and Robin on their hands.

God bless the men of 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard...good luck, and come home soon.

Sorry, man...but between the f'd-up costume, the f'd-up latest treatment of the "S" logo...

(...y'know, what was wrong with this?)

...and a Superman who looks like Eric from "That 70's Show" standing in where you expect to see Christopher Reeve...I'm extremely worried that this is one big disappointment coming.

Continuity from Superman II and the use of Marlon Brando voice track and John Williams' score are the only things giving me hope right now.

I'll probably give it a chance...and regret it later. Warner Bros., you're dealing with a piece of Americana...do NOT screw this up for us all.

Yore not implying that Batman and Robin was a burton film are you? Because that was Joel Schumacher.

Joel indeed sucks.

You know what WERE Burton films? Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Creepy Dentist One Oompa Loompa Incomprehensible-Sing-A-Long.

Let's all be thankful for Singer as Burton is REALLY hit or miss nowadays and still threw crap like killer penguins into movies in his prime.

As for the actual teaser, it's... a teaser. I don't feel all that teased but I see nothing that shakes my faith in Singer.

As for the new Supes, no one knew who Jackman was either and Singer & co. turned him into living four color ink.

I know that. What they were afraid of was that if it kept continuing as it was with all the changes they were making, it would've ended up to be a Batman and Robin-like disaster.
