Did anyone happen to notice that right after jericho speared Goldberg, the camera followed Jericho out of the ring and then panned back to Goldberg, no more than 10 seconds later, and he was standing in the ring, supporting himself on the ropes? What bullshit is this? Do you mean to tell me that a spear from Goldberg can keep the Rock down for 10 minutes and Christian down for the rest of a segment yet, when he gets speared, he can bounce right back up with no problem? All the while he face is covered in "mace"?

This is bullshit and another reason why the WWE blows now. Goldberg SHOULD have been writhing on the mat in pain. He should have sold the spear like other wrestlers sell his. If anyone out there thinks Jericho has the SLIGHTEST chance against Goldberg at Badd Blood, I have some land I would like to sell you.

In fact, I am so confident that Goldberg will crush Jericho (unless they do a shitty DQ) that I will buy every PPV after Badd Blood for the next year if Jericho wins. A safer bet I never made.

Someone would have had a problem with the segment no matter HOW Goldberg had reacted. If he sold it like a pro, then you know all the usual suspects would be saying `the WWE is making Goldberg look weak'. But if he gets right back up, it's also kind of silly.

I would have preferred a bit more of a delay in the selling, but not much. Gotta keep him strong for now.

Finishers are cooky little beings. Sometimes they'll keep a man down for days on end, others they'll pop back up just a few seconds later and be fine and dandy.

Look at Rocky. Sells the spear like a king one week on RAW then kicks out of it no problem at the ensuing PPV.

And like CANADIAN BULLDOG says, no matter what they did, somebody would be pissed somewhere.

I see your point on keeping Goldberg strong, but they could have at least let him get up slower than spring right out of it. It is not like he took a spear from Spike Dudley. The funny thing is, when Jericho gets speared at Badd Blood, he will probabaly be told to stay down for ten minutes, clutching his ribs and then stagger to the back.

As for Goldberg, I think his stay in the WWE is already a failure. He is awful on the mic and his in ring ability is so limited that he can not make anyone llok good.

First Nash, now Goldberg. How many mediocre wrestlers does Jericho have to carry to a decent match before he is given another title shot?

First of all, Goldberg needed to ropes to get up, he didn't jump up and scream for more. Goldberg rolled on the mat in pain holding his ribs for a few seconds. Secondly, you can't have someone else's spear have the exact same effect as the man who "owns" it. That is just how it is. I guess if someone hits a DDT on Raven he should sell it like he was shot. I guess everytime that anyone every got hit with their own finisher and didn't sell it like he was dead, then you will be on here complaining about it as well, right?

As far as Goldberg being a failure. You crack me up. The crowd legit getting the Goldberg chant behind him, Jericho actually has something to do in a money angle, Goldberg was damned good on the mic last night in his back and forth with Jericho. But in your mind I guess none of that matters because Goldberg is the most vile thing on the earth.

Goldberg should not be selling some half ass spear from Chris Jericho. He's an indestructable monster and if he's selling like everyone else, he's not good enough to be anything special.

dskillz,

All I will say is this:

I will stand by my statement that he is a failure. I will also say that a year from now, he will either be gone or on his way out of the WWE. Limited ring skills, limited mic skills, a huge ego and seemingly legitmate out of the ring heat with some higher up wrestlers will lead to his demise.

If you like Goldberg, good for you. I hope you are enjoying his time with the WWE. I however, am not. What I see is an egomaniac who will never put the good of the company ahead of his own good. He is in the perfect feud for him right now because Jericho is the ultimate company man. He will do the job to Goldberg because Vince will say so. And he will try his hardest to make Goldberg look really good.

Goldberg, in turn, will make Jericho's offense look weak and make himself look strong because that is good for Goldberg and the good of the WWE be damned.

I didn't really have a problem with the sell. I thought Goldberg did the right amount of grimacing, without looking weak.

I just don't like Goldberg. He comes across like an ass. His little "boy"s tacked on at the end of every phrase just seemed to indicated a total lack of respect for Jericho. Like when HHH would call him a "bitter little man." In a perfect world, guys as talented as Jericho would get a little bit more respect, but I take comfort that he's always managed to hang around and work programs with the big boys, at least.

That segment was the best part of Raw, hands down. Jericho's spear was meant to inflict psychological damage, not physical. How Goldberg sold it (and he did it just fine) is irrelevant. This was the second best duping of Goldberg since Bret's steel plate. (And I loved that Jericho kept spraying the mace, even onto Goldberg's head.)

Nash's no-sell of TWO chair attacks was far more inexcusable. He got a direct shot to his surgically repaired knee and shook it off like nothing. That pissed me off more than anything else on the show.

A year from now. Champ, either of Raw, or the unified title and a hell of a battle against Brocky. Monster Vs. Monster. Actually, I think that's two years out. Goldberg, as far as I can see at the live events, is the only one close to being as over as Hogan and Austin and Rock. Louder than the You Suck chant for Kurt, louder than the Rock chant-alongs. LOUD. You may hate him, because he's not 240 Lbs and named Chris, but he's the man. (I stole that line from the Brain)

I'm not sure I buy the argument that Jericho should be the top guy in the promotion.... I think he's doing just fine where he is right now. I compare him with Randy Savage circa 1987 or Honky Tonk Man in 1988... he's the No. 2 heel in the company whom Vince uses to put in good situations with the top faces. This Goldberg thing is interesting; the slow burn they did with Michaels was GREAT.
Make no mistake about it; Chris Jericho is the reason that this angle with Goldberg is keeping my interest. I just don;t think the guy is best suited in the top role right now...

I see Jericho as being in the same place Austin was before Bret got screwed out of the WWF and Shawn's fucked up back was apparent. He can hang with the big boys but he's not one of them just yet.

As for selling the spear - Goldberg's a huge ex football player. His spear is going to hurt a damn site more than Jericho's. Likewise, Goldberg's lionsault is probably very shitty.

Why would Goldberg show "respect" to the guy who tried to have him ran over?

AWARulz,

I do not hate Goldberg because he is not 24o lbs and named Chris, I hate him for the reasons I stated. He is a complete and utted egomaniac who only cares about himself and how he comes off. If, and this is a HUMONGOUS if, he some how finds a way to let Jericho get in a ton of offense and sell it at BADD BLOOD and IF, and this is a INFINATELY MORE HUMONGOUS if, he lets Jericho go over him in order to further an angle and storyline and for the betterment of the company, I will bite my tongue on the negatives remarks on Goldberg and admit my mistake and apologize.

This feud is working because of jericho and Jericho alone. I agree with Asteroidboy that Goldberg's use of "boy" shows an utter lack of respect. However, if Jericho goes over Goldberg at Badd Blood, then they have two months until the next PPV to really build this up and then have the huge pay off with Goldberg beating jericho at the next PPV. This would keep Goldberg away from HHH and have him in an angle that would keep a ton of viewers interested.

That being said, I would almost (note the word almost) bet my kids on the fact that Goldberg would never allow Jericho to go over cleanly.

How would Jericho going over Goldberg be good for the company? It'd be a horrible, horrible idea. I love Jericho but he's dead as far as ever being any sort of draw. Goldberg's fresh and they need to run with him and that means beating Jericho in short order at Bad Blood. That's what's good for the company, trying to capitalize on Goldberg's popularity.

Clearly you weren’t at the RAW where he debuted, when we were chanting “Goldberg Sucks” during commercial breaks.

That said, hopefully Jericho will get some good shots in to remind people why he’s the new Dirtiest Player in the Game.

Did anyone besides me notice Nash's no-sell during the beat-down after the main event? The Masked Man ran in and hit Nash right in the knee with the chair, and Nash just turned and punched the guy. Didn't even flinch. THAT was lame.

But back on topic, I agree with the comment about Jericho's spear being meant for psychological effect, not physical effect. Goldberg's ego took a major blow, being hit with his own move.

Hah. He's an employee. Employees do what the boss says. Bill has precious little stroke at this point, I'd bet. I'd be surprised if he had creative control to much extent, like we hear (and I would understand) Trips, Nash, HBK and some of the others who have earned it have.

No, BG will go over Jerich hard because it IS best for the business. Y2J is a cocky heel. Cocky heels go down to monster faces. It's what they do. After they cheat and run away and the rest of the cocky heel bit. Will it be at Bad Blood? My personal guess is no. I think Jericho does the heel thing and will beat him with some ploy for another couple months and they will blow it off on Raw inbetween the Raw PPVs. When he does it will be hard and clean. When Y2J beats BG it will be because he cheated. Because Y2J is a Heel and heels heel. Plus, they are running BG as a monster. Monsters kick ass on guys like Y2J.

and now, the obligatory Trips bashing: It's because they are building BG to a point where he is unbeatable, so Trips can humiliate him. Because no one beats the game.

fuelinjected,

It would be good for the company if Jericho went over because if/when Goldberg goes over, the feud is over. Goldberg moves onto HHH. This is a feud, if done right, that can span a month or two. The WWE needs a money feud to ride and this could be it. Much like Jericho/Rock a while back, this could be the reason people tune in and stay tuned to RAW.

Having Jericho get the shocking win would completely solidify Jericho as the #2 heel on RAW for a long time and build him up as the successor to HHH as the #1 heel. If Storm super kicks Goldberg while the ref is down and Jericho gets the cover, then everyone wins. Goldberg loses only from interference and Jericho can restart the whole "I am undefeated against Goldberg" schtick he started in WCW. Goldberg then becomes a man possessed to get Jericho in the ring again. Tag matches ensue with Jericho trying to duck Goldberg at all costs. he reluctantly agrees to a PPV rematch with the stip that Goldberg can not touch him until then. Goldberg could cause Jericho to lose matches by distracting him and being a pain in the ass without hitting him. Get into the psychological. Then the big pay off: a last man standing match, no DQ. Goldberg beats Jericho and then moves onto HHH. WWE makes oodles of money fromt he feud and Goldberg, by winning a LMS match, comes across as someone who can go the distance and can not be beat fair and square. Goldberg moves onto HHH and a summer/fall feud for the belt and Jericho revisits HBK (if Michaels has the balls) to get a much deserved return win.
