IN an interesting piece of development, now some WWE wrestlers are taking sides with Goldberg. According to worldsofwrestling.com

"As we have been reporting, Chris Jericho and Bill Goldberg were involved in a fight after RAW ended this past Monday. The story we reported earlier is right on the ball as to what happened, but we contacted several other wrestlers about the situation and have some quotes for you.

"I don't think Goldberg was in the wrong on this," the source told us. "I just think (another wrestler) got Jericho all worked up (by repeating what Goldberg said to Jericho)."

I think Jericho might have been amped on.

Well you might be right but at the end of the day it's up to reader to decipher who's credible and who's not.Just because you never heard of them doesn't mean it's not true.

If all they can say is "sources said" and "insert wrestler name here" and "we've heard from people", then they deserve absolutely no credibility. They AREN'T journalists, and outside of Meltzer, who has even been worked before, I don't really think that anyone of them has earned the right to be looked at as anything more than "guy who bought a domain name".

Put some sources, names, and details that don't sound like a grade 6 creative writing project, and then it'll be more alright for people to start believing what they're reading and posting here about how pissed they are at one of the guys.

Prophet, what you say makes a lot of sense and now that I read the post again I look at it in a different light.

If the WWE hierarchy can't figure out who is to blame... what do they do? Nothing? Punish both?

Either way, I'm guessing McMahon will do what makes most sense-- and that's to reward the wrestlers he believes will make him the most money and making an example of a fringe-player.

Maybe he'll book Ralphus to get pinned by the Ultimate Warrior?

I just read the article on 411 myself; here's a piece of it:

"Goldberg apparently made some comments to various people backstage at RAW on Monday about Chris Jericho and how he is "small" and doesn't like to sell moves for people. Jericho eventually became aware of the comments and confronted Goldberg right after his match on RAW. The two then got into a fight, with Goldberg initially trying to choke Jericho. Jericho then slapped Goldberg's hands away and put him in a front facelock. The two then went to the ground before being broken up

So if this is true, Jericho got upset over something Goldberg SAID then went after him to confront him? Someone needs to start building up some thicker skin.

Maybe if more wrestlers just shut the fuck up, went out and did what they were told to do instead of worrying about what other wrestlers thought about them, we wouldn't have to be treated with the re-invasion of the old WWF.

If I was Jericho, I'd be pissed about it too. One the one hand, you've got a talented performer, who has worked in the 3 major promotions in the U.S., has worked in Mexico, possibly Japan, a person who (during the time that I've seen him, anyway) has put over anyone he's been asked to, has sold *everyone's* offense well, (he had to cheat to beat *MAVEN*) showing his love for the business. On the other hand, you have a guy who only came back when he felt that he was paid enough for it, a guy with a rather limited moveset, who only got over because he was given the "unstoppable monster" gimmick. Then you have this guy saying that he won't sell your offense, therby making your character look inferior if they were ever to have a match? So in essense, Goldberg is saying that he's better than Jericho? I might have punched him right there. But then, I have anger issues. :-)

I think the issue is more likely how things were said. I mean, we've all heard Goldberg's interviews. For all we know, Goldberg was backstage saying "Jericho, if I was in the ring with him I'd no-sell all his offense and then drop him on his head. End his career just like I did to Bret Hart!" I'd sure take offense to that. And no, I'm not just trying to stir up shit by mentioning Hart, but we've all heard Goldy's interview when he was so proud of it.

And for all we know he wasn't. I'd be very curious to see what the net reaction would have been if the roles were reversed in this story.

Either way both guys need to realise that they're gonna have to work together and should be able to do so in an amicable manner without rolling around like school kids cos "he said that he said that... yadayada....".

The pair of them should grow the fuck up.

So what you're saying is, they should give up the names of their source(s)? Isn't that the cardinal sin for journalists (granted, "journalists" might be stretching it in this case, but it still applies).

Further, by naming other wrestlers involved, it would only serve to get those wrestlers in trouble w/ management.

You wouldn't expect to see Meltzer say (for example):
"Shane Helms told me Stevie has heat w/ management. In other developments, Helms told me HHH goaded Jericho into confronting Goldberg."

He'd likely lose all his sources, and only get people in trouble.

Any credible journalist in the real world names all the sources he can. If you can't pin a statement to a specific person, place and time, it has only the journalist's word to back it up. Sometimes a reputable paper or news show will quote "a senior staffer" or "a source in the State Department" if it's a statement that's being made "off the record" for political purposes. Otherwise, the facts must be right there or all you have is words without credibility.

A journalist can destroy his credibility by not checking his sources--hello, Pierre Salinger and Peter Arnett. Even if the source isn't named in the story, the editor or producer of the story certainly knows who made the statement. He is not going to hang himself and his career on the unsupported word of a reporter.

That doesn't happen in wrestling reporting. It operates in a shadow world with entirely different rules. Unless it's a formal interview, naming sources IS a cardinal sin. There's the basic problem. No one can be safely quoted about backstage goings-on in wrestling, therefore wrestling "journalism" is not journalism. Who is going to maintain that the reporters themselves have a weight of credibility behind them? ;-) They're making money off of clicks, remember. If you like reading that stuff just for shits and giggles, that's your prerogative. That's all it's worth, IMO.

About Goldberg's size - a long time ago people dissed me for saying this, but in a conversation where people went on about how great he was becuase he was big and could move I said in WWF (which it was at the time) he wouldn't be so big.

I noticed that Goldberg was the same size as Meng when they fought and then when Meng/Haku showed up in WWF he looked pretty average size.

People forget that in WCW the ring is a lot smaller and they generally didn't have huge wrestlers (Nash and Wight aside).

In WWE Goldberg is only just average sized. He's smaller than about 50 of Raw, I'd bet.

Yeah, the WWE Ring is huge...I sometimes wondered how WCW got away with that smaller ring.
