And why are we seeing this commercial now in 2006, when the bad USA remake was released in 1998 and was a total flop at the box office?

I'm really not sure why Doritos would want the Godzilla everyone hates to be the face of their product. Why not use the Godzilla classic instead of imitation Godzilla? | J. Kyle

| #6 Posted on 10.6.06 0821.40 | Instant Rating: 3.04 | As one of the rare breed who actually liked the Broderick remake (sure, there were some less-than-stellar parts to the movie, but I certainly didn't find it to be the WORST. MOVIE. EVER.) I just can't seem to figure out why this commercial is airing nearly ten years after the movie was originally in theaters.
Did the Doritos people have this commerical in the can all these years and finally decided that NOW would be the best time to show it? Was it kept off the air so long for legal reasons (copyright issues and such)? I bet there are a bunch of people now who - upon seeing the commercial - don't even realize that it's supposed to be Godzilla.
Just weird, all around.
