Sad to see this happen. Beth was pretty great, performing feats of strength within her matches that really got a pop from the crowd (even when most divas matches get no reaction at any point in the match). I guess the real question for you all is...is she still with CM Punk? If so, will this negatively affect that relationship? I don't really care about that, unless it does affect Punk's behavior, because Punk is in the midst of the biggest push of his career.

She was far and away my favorite diva. She had a fitting gimmick (strong, powerful, but sexy woman,) and was probably the best female wrestler on the roster by a good margin with only Nat and AJ being remotely in her league
Any time she had to act, I feel like she knocked it out of the park by diva standards. Her bits with Santino were awesome (AND OVER), and her Royal Rumble bit with Khali and Punk was off the charts.
That being said, other than PPV matchups with Nat and AJ (which would get 5 mins at best), what does she have left to accomplish? Shes been an in ring performer in two Wrestlemania Celebrity matches and won the highest title available for her numerous times. I think she was also dating Edge around the time of the HOF ceremony this year. I don't know if that is still going on, but Edge is pretty much one of the best poster boys for retiring and enjoying life on his own terms outside of the business and off the road, so maybe exposure to that influenced her choice (in addition to the death in her family).
I'll miss her, but the company obviously had no further use for one of the only truly unique Diva's they had on the roster, so good on her for getting off the road.
Originally posted by John OrquiolaThe PWinsider article notes Beth has "been going through the motions" for the past year. Well, gee, considering the way she's been booked, wonder why?
They had a hot angle (well...hot for the Divas, anyway) with her and Natalya as the Divas of Doom and one day, they just decided, out of the blue, to drop the whole thing because.............yeah, they sure dropped that angle like a hot potato, didn't they? In fact, they pretty much went from "Diva of Doom Natalya" to "Farting Natalya" without any rhyme or reason (other than "It amused the writers!"), which left Beth floating in limbo...WHILE SHE WAS STILL THE CHAMPION!
I hate this company's writing staff more and more with each passing day.
Aw, she will be missed for sure but as Shadowhendrix said, she really had done everything there was to accomplish. The company did totally drop the ball on the Pinup Strong/Divas Of Doom angle. Beth was pretty awesome in every role she was put in to, but over the past year they really didn't seem to care about putting her in any role whatsoever...

There's some joke here about this + Punk & Lita back together...
Not to be contrarian, but this news doesn't bother me in the slightest. Admittedly, I wasn't watching the product when she had her program with Santino, I got back in after. She never impressed me. I read a lot of positive things about her abilities, but I never saw it. She must be good because everyone says she is, and clearly she is better than Kelly Kelly or model-turned-diva X, but I've haven't been awestruck by the performances I've seen. I also don't find her the least bit attractive. That headband is ridiculous. To me, she's a marginally prettier version of Chyna. Meh.

If you never saw her beat the shit out of Melina with Melina's own foot then you totally missed one of the best divas since Lita left.

In regards to AJ, define "badly booked". Because to me, it showed how much interest the company had in keeping her character prominent that they made her RAW GM.
Now, it isn't a great fit for the character, but look at the options: Her storyline with Bryan, Punk and Kane was over. It ran for many months but it was losing steam even before the wedding. The options would have been rehashing just her and Bryan again or sending her into the Divas division, which likely would have meant she's off TV for long periods of time. Even if she became Divas Champion, AJ would have likely lost TV time and her newfound prominence because of WWE's disinterest in their diwindling Divas Division. (Points for alliteration?) She'd just be another one of the girls they don't care about. At best, she'd have feuded with Eve.
Making AJ GM gave her a prominent role, guaranteed her TV time, and if it weren't for her sending Bryan and Kane into anger management, we wouldn't have Dr. Shelby and I AM THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!! - everyone's favorite and the best thing in WWE right now. So in my book, they did a fine job booking AJ.
As for Beth, she had a good run. It could have been a legendary run, but instead it was good, with long periods of not good.
(edited by John Orquiola on 22.9.12 1936) @CMPunk “@ZackRyder: @CMPunk She played me bro” I got your back.
As I said, the booking for "the Divas" (and I mean as a subset) is bad. AJ isn't an active wrestler/Diva anymore. No matches, no Hello Kitty outfit, no ringwork. The most over Diva in years was yoinked from the division to sell Punk/Bryan, and she made GM to spike the RAW 1000th. Great for AJ. Badbadbad for the Divas. None of them can get any heat for working against her.

She is definately broken up with Punk. I remember her tweeting something awhile back that screamed "Punk cheated on me" And then suddenly whereas Punk and her had mentioned each other in tweets all the time, there was nothing.
TNA has a huge opportunity to reboot the KO division. Phoenix would be great there and if Kong can get on track they have a chance at her too.
Here's to hoping Beth is murdering boring Brooke Tessmacher soon.
I think Eve's character is the best thing that's happened with the girls division since LayCool. Which isn't exactly a tall mountain for JBL to scale. I'll say it again, bin the wrestling and make them all valets. Rosa and Aksana are the worst wrestlers they have and they're better utilized and more distinctive than any of the strong, sexy, and powerful competitors. (Although Aksana is apparently deported again or something.) Even Natalya would be better off seconding Tyson Kidd than she would be having crappy matches.

Totally disagree. The women's division at times has been the only watchable thing on Raw during stretches. The WWE screwed it up by not having anyone as over as Lita/Trish when they left. Victoria could have been their number one heel, but they made her a comedy act. Mickie and Kong are not their fault, because of backstage issues. Beth/Melina was a great feud with great matches and even Beth/Kelly worked on some levels, its just no one believes Kelly can win all of those matches, one or two maybe, but not a dozen.
There is a ton of great female wrestlers working in the US today who are not from Japan or Mexico who can go like Sara Del Rey who can make the fans care about them. WWE has got to stop treating everything like a joke. The same could be said for their mid-card division all the faces are comedy skits even Cena and Sheamus to some degree are joke characters. The only serious face character is Orton who has one bad piss away from being on the unemployment line. The entire company needs to stop making the legends or HHH and friends bad asses and start making their roster into legit threats.
Attitude Era had a lot of jokey characters, but when shit went down you knew Foley and Rock were legit threats as was Jericho in the ring. Now, they are going with jokes first and wrestling third.

If Beth does leave, the best wrestler of the Divas leaves. But at the same time I don't blame her for not wanting to stay. Vince McMahon only cares about having beautiful women on his show and while at the same time HHH has been the one promoting the hiring of Indy wrestlers including NXT Divas, he's also being "reported" (FWIW) as not wanting women's wrestling on WWE TV. There is some quality wrestling talent among the Divas (both TV roster & NXT). And out in the wrestling world, there are plenty of female wrestlers who are talented in the ring, very attractive, & can cut promos/act but it's up to creative to utilize them well. I personally don't think anything of significance with the Divas is ever going to happen in WWE because the people in charge don't want it to. Which is mind boggling considering they could be the most marketable asset WWE has if any effort at all was put into them.
The funny thing is, Ireally didn't like JBL when he first started. I thought he was still trying too hard to get himself over, a lot of times at the expense of the wrestlers. He's sure moved past that phase though.
