As you can imagine, they're totally swamped and not responding when I tried at 10:04 PDT. Fortunately, there's a handy button on our front page I can keep trying!

EDIT: Still trying around every five minutes or so, but no joy. I want Firefox 3 NOW. (I guess I can live with this beta for a FEW hours. ;-) )

I had the Firefox d/l page open from earlier and hit F5 in anticipation of reviving Brock Lesnar's career watching the number click over from two to three. But it's like "No thanks, you don't get a reload. Too much traffic."

This is a good thing.

I'm afraid I'm out of the loop here.

I already have Firefox. What are we all downloading it for? Is it just so they can set a record or is there also a newer version I should be using?

Also, if they want some publiciity, why doesn't Firefox just give out a million dollars a week? People love that! They don't complain about it or nitpick the contest details at all! (Maybe this biting sarcasm should go in that other thread.)

There's a newer version.

I finally got through, clicked on the "Download FireFox 3" image, and it immediately took me to the old FireFox 2 page - which then registered a "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable" when I tried to download FF2.

I have a feeling they may have gotten more than they bargained for.

version 3.0 is officially released. I'd get you a list of improvements, but the site being down kinda hurts that. LifeHacker's top 10 will work instead.

I was looking for some place this morning to see if my extensions will work - I'd wait longer rather than giving up FireFTP or certain code removal software - but of course good luck like this.

You know, when you ask everyone to go to your website, your website ought to work. It kinda makes you look dumb when it goes lile this.

I've had version 3 in beta for a few weeks, its nice, nothing extraordinary, but nice little visual upgrades.

There's still a few bugs - like crappy bookmark stability, for example - that are present in all the betas (I'm using RC2 right now). I'm hoping those have been settled.

Kinda makes me wonder why they don't have any mirrors set up for this.

The email Firefox sent me has a link to download the RC3 build of Firefox 3. Not exactly what I wanted, thanks anyways. At least the link is up here.

Keeping in mind the deadline tomorrow, will he link still be available at the top of THE-W's index page until then? I'm gonna stop trying to download it (I'm just getting CONNECTION RESET errors anyhow) until after midnight tonight or sometime else.

Oh, and one thing I noticed:

I clicked the FIREFOX 3 logo in the download page that was linked to the email they sent...and it downloaded Firefox 2 to my computer.

I have also gotten through a couple times, only to be presented with a page telling me how to get Firefox 2.0.0.14. Shoot, I already HAVE that one. Their page says they're already at just under 550,000 downloads.

Most definitely.

I thought it was priceless enough for a screen shot.

Here's the download counter that's (supposedly) tracking all of the downloads:

Edit: Okay - this link seems to be working properly:

I finally got it downloaded and installed through the link on the front page. I hadn't tried the beta, so it is new to me. I like the new look, I'll have to use it more to see all the cool new features.

Got it.

Bookmarks still suck.

I guess I'll complain. Again.

If you've installed the beta before, I recommend a custom install. Mine tried to install into the folder c:\mozilla firefox 3 beta 3\ by default.

I think the rush died down as I d/l'ed it on my first try just now.

I like it, it seems to run faster, or at when it needs to reopen my tabs on startup.

I like it - its running very fast. My only issue is this: the results in the address bar shows up double lined. I always prefer the single lined effort.

I also prefer the original GUI, but I'm sure there's an add-on for that.

Ye gods! There's no way to turn the Autocomplete feature off on this thing? I've unchecked all the necessary boxes and I'm still getting a boatload of autocompleted sites. Is there anything I can do about this?

The MOuse Gestures add on I was using doesn't work with this version. It seems so foreign to me to actually click the back button.

And I agree on the autocomplete, especially in the address bar, WAY too much stuff going on there.

The add-ons I had that (1) weren't compatible with 3.0 and (2) hadn't released an updated version were Ad-Block and FasterFox. FireFTP, BugMeNot, and IE-Tab all worked fine or updated.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

Urgh. I agree, that double-lined autocomplete window needs to GO. I much preferred just going through single lines of URLs. Please let me know once someone unveils a way to roll THAT change back. Other than that I'm liking what I'm seeing.

EDIT: Never mind, I found it myself.

Seth Spitzer's oldbar extension (addons.mozilla.org)

The beautiful thing is that it only changes the display; you can still search in autocomplete by title if you want.

Ad-Block (0.7.5.4) told me it wasn't compatible initially, but after I restarted it after the initial load it worked fine. BugMeNot wouldn't upgrade automatically for me - had to go from 1.3 to 2.0 manually. I don't use any of the other extensions you mentioned.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I'd take the hard drive and physically destroy it if you are worried about it. Fire is pretty effective. So is a sledgehammer. I usually donate my stuff before it's too useless.
