This is not a review. More like an open letter...

--------------------

Dear George Romero:

Hi George, you don't know me, but I like to think I know you. I've been a fan of you work for quite some time. My first introduction to you was way back in the early eighties when I remember seeing NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD on Creature Feature, hosted by Dr Paul Bearer on a little UHF channel in Tampa Florida. It was great. I loved it. After that, I was able to see DAWN and DAY OF THE DEAD at midnight showings back when AMC Theaters had their Midnight Movie Express series on friday and saturday nights along with other classic films like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and Fulci's ZOMBIE. Then there was CREEPSHOW where you had a young kid just like me who read comics and Fangoria magazine in the film.

Thanks to the advent of VHS, I was able to see SEASON OF THE WITCH, THE CRAZIES, MARTIN. I was hooked on you sir. KNIGHTRIDERS, I thought at the time, was a slight misstep, but I have since come to accept it as one of your best. I've seen them all; MONKEY SHINES, TWO EVIL EYES, BRUISER (Excellent, very underrated.), THE DARK HALF... I even searched out I'VE SEEN VANILLA just because you directed. I agree with you that the script was lazy, but you made it work.

As I said, I like to think I know you through your films.

...

...so what happened. Are you alright? Did something happen to you. You really haven't been yourself for a few years now. It started about six years ago with LAND OF THE DEAD. Sure, I liked it, but... well... it's off. The magic wasn't really there. Then there was DIARY OF THE DEAD. That was a chore to get through. I remember lying to people saying "Oh yeah, it's great!" to get them to see it and help and old friend out. I assumed you were just having financial troubles at this point and were cranking the movies out in quick succession cause you needed money. Badly. Why else would you allow crap like that to have your good name on it, right.

Now, we come to this... this... abomination. This is it man, we need an intervention and we need it now. You can't go on like this or you're gonna die. I mean, what the fuck dude! Zombies riding horses? What the fuck man.

There wasn't one single redeeming moment in this film. Head shot! That's all this was. Bad CGI head shots. Fucking Unreal Tournament even does them better. There wasn't a single character anyone could relate to. Terrible accents. Horrible acting. The sets looked like crap. Shit man, what the fuck happened to you?

I guess, what I'm trying to say is... it's over. I've been trying to make this relationship work on my end by giving you my time, money and patience and you just are not giving me back anything worthy from your end. It just ain't working out anymore.

Sure, I'll still see you around, from a distance. I'll relive the good times with you when I can, but that's gonna take some time for me to get this bad taste out of my mouth. You've taken me for granted and I suppose I did the same with you, but I'm just feeling used and abused right now and really dirty and disgusted with myself for allowing you to treat me and yourself in such a way as to totally shit on what we had going.

You know... fuck man, what the fuck. We're done... I'm done.

Forget it Josh... it's Cerebustown.

I gave up on Romero after DIARY OF THE DEAD.

That film looked like it was made by a bunch of college kids on a $1000 budget in about five days.

Ledger is a good actor, and I will give him a chance. After seeing the picture posted of him above, I feel a little better about him pulling it off physically. I am also curious as to who will be cast as Dent, one of my favorite Bat villains.
