Chris Mortenson on Mike & Mike reported that Upshaw just found out he had cancer on Sunday. 4 days later, he's dead. In addition to the personal lose his friends and family have to deal with, this makes questions for the next round of CBA negotiations. There were those who thought Upshaw didn't do enough for the players (for example, Bryant Gumbel's comment along the lines of "Paul Tagliabue needs to tell Roger Goddell where he keeps Gene Upshaw's leash". If they get a MLBPA-type rep, then a work-stoppage almost seems definite to me.

His death taught me exactly how many people disliked him. The old saying of never speaking ill of the dead didn't really apply.
In the NY tabloids, there were some less than favorable quotes from former players about him with regards to his passing.

I had just bent down to tighten my nuts, and there was a double yellow line, see? And next thing I knew, there was policeman behind me. He put a sticker on my helmet and tried to clamp me.

Well no players come to mind yet but as for head coaches Bill Cowher (Steelers) is in the last year of his contract and the Post Gazette had an article mentioning his wife and kids were moving to North Carolina. Cowher has yet to ask for extension.
