Let me just start out by saying that I love Gears of War. When somebody comes to me and says what console should I buy, I say "Xbox 360 because of Gears of War". Sadly, I cannot say the same thing for Gears of War 2.

I am speaking strictly to game play during "Solo Campaign Mode" (AKA Story Mode). When it comes to graphics and visuals I score it a 10. The specific engine used for capturing this stuff is awesome, it really is. When it comes to originality of a sequel.....Well it's sub-par. It's the same damn game.

Outside of disappearing cover that's activated by a switch, Reavers that land & fighting the big guys (with guns on their backs in that level that you beat in the first one....and still don't really fight in this one) the game is just the same thing.

Sure you get a new weapons arsenal and Achievements to boot. In the end, It's really the same damn gameplay.

I think gamers use a 10 star ranking. I'll give it a six out of ten stars. Fun game but nothing so different that it matters.

With that said, I'm going to play the game again. At least I can get some achievement points out of it (on Insane Mode!!!). BTW Gears 3 is for sure, watch the ending at the credits.

P.S.
THE WORST FINAL BOSS EVER! (probably the root of my dissatisfaction!)

A lot of games are like that, because they have something that works and they want to build on it. Take Call of Duty 2, for example: they control scheme (for the PC) is the same as the first, but with some small differences, like mapping the frag grenade to the mouse wheel and putting the new smoke grenade on the keyboard.

Call of Duty 2 is pretty much the same thing as the original, but since the first was such a great seller, they kept the same formula. I've never played Gears of War, so I don't know how that runs, but I'm guessing that's their logic.

Heh, the last time I bought a game I was deciding between Gears 2 and Fallout 3. I'd say that I made the right decision with Fallout 3, I've played it for about 3 weeks and am nowhere close to being done. Gears 2 I can just borrow and be done in a week probably.

Two of my friends did that with Gamefly. It took one 7 days, and the other 8 days to beat it.

It's pretty safe to say that's what happened here. I also didn't take all that much time to beat the game.

On the plus side I am liking the Horde Mode quite a bit. It's most definitely a lot more challenging. They should consider using some of the elements from the Horde Mode during Story mode. I'm liking that all of the enemies actually come out to get you (they don't keep rotating between cover spots).

I still stand by my opinion of the Story Mode, but the Horde Mode is raising my opinion of the overall game. Kinda makes me think I should give on-line play a whirl.....I'll have to wait on that though. I have a hard time accepting getting cursed out by 14 year olds that just destroyed me.

edit..fixed 14 Years to 14 year olds

In most of the online shooters I've played on the 360 there isn't much chatter going on. I tend to play the team modes and you can only hear your teammates talking and even then probably 80% of the time it's just about strategy or random junk. Course if a girl speaks up or someone with an hard accent that derails things a bit but not all the time.

I must also admit that I have hard time losing to 14 year olds. It's notjust the cursing. More power to them, but damn where did my button pushing reflexes go?

I dunno, I do pretty well for myself in most games. You can usually out think the kids. Though I must admit to being really frustrated once by a girl who was head shotting everyone left and right and kept acting suprised as she dominated.
