Well... no Joffrey/Margaery wedding. Guess they will save that for next season. As per usual, the last episode of the season was a pretty chill one.

The show starts off with traitor Roose walking to the top of the castle to witness all the Starks men getting murdered, banners getting burned. The Hound and Arya are making their escape. Robb's beheaded body is on a horse with his direwolf head mounted on his body. Yikes.

Sansa and Tyrion start to bond about getting revenge on those who laugh at Tyrion. Shae is in the back getting irritated. Tyrion goes to a meeting and Joffrey is hopping up and down with exciting news for Tyrion. The Grandmaester drops the note to force Tyrion to pick it up because he is a dick. Tyrion reads a message from Walder Frey and didn't get it until Tywin tell him Robb and his Mom are dead. Joffrey has a wonderful idea of retrieving Robb's head and serving it to Sansa on a silver platter as a joke. Since the girl hasn't suffered enough, obviously. Tyrion puts Joffrey in his place and Tywin tells Joffrey it's time for bed which pisses Joffrey off... He is the King!! Tywin says he who keeps having to say he is the king is not a true King. Tywin tells Tyrion that Roose Bolton is the Ward of the North until Tyrion's offspring with Sansa is old enough to take over so hurry up with that. Tywin tells Tyrion he needs to put family first and Tywin did just that when Tyrion was born.

Roose and Walder talk about all the great things they have done and he finally reveals that Theon's torturer is his bastard Ramsey Bolton.

Ramsey eats a pig sausage in front of Theon having cut off Theon's penis, asking him if he experience phantom itches with his missing limp? Ramsey has officially renamed Theon Reek and punches Theon until he accepts the new name.

Ramsey sends Theon's father and sister a message to withdraw all the iron-borns or else he will punish them like he has Theon. He sent them a mystery box and you knew right away it was Theon's dick. Ramsey wrote he will keep sending parts of Theon until they withdraw. Lord Balon will not give up his conquered land for Theon. Theon's sister, however, is taking the fastest ship and 50 of the deadliest killers to rescue Theon. To be continued next season.

Jon Snow stops at a pond and is surprised by Ygritte. He explained why he had to betray them and said she won't hurt him as he tries to leave. Too bad for him, she shot him 3 times with arrows. Think she is more upset over being abandoned then Jon betraying the Wildlings.

Samwell and Gilly runs into Bran and friends. He warns them of the White Walkers and shows that he has a shitload of Dragonglass! No wonder he just left that one after he destroyed the White walker. They part ways as Bran HAS to go north of the wall to find this three eyed Raven. Oh yeah, Bran also talks about a story about someone who got punished by the Gods when he offered people his protection then served someone's son to them. The Gods turned him into a mouse. So Walder Frey's betrayal is probably going to come back to haunt him.

Samwell makes it to the Nightwatch HQ and explains to the Maester what happened. The Maester has him write notes for all the Ravens to send out. Later on, Jon Snowmakes it to the same place that Sam was.

Arya and the Hound are riding through the forest and they overhear some Frey men talk about how they put the direwolf head on Robb's body. Arya confronts the one that claims to have done this deed, asking if she can get some warmth from the fire and the guy told her to beat it. She said she can pay and produces the coin that Jaqen H'ghar gave her. She drops it and as the guy reaches down to pick it up, Arya stabs the shit out of him. Before the others can attack, the Hound kills them all. The Hound asked her where she got the knife from, she said from him. LOL The Hound told her to let him know before she kills. This is her first kill. She grabs the coin and says "valar morghulis".

The onion knight Ser Davos bonds with Gendry who is locked up. Later on, he finds out they plan to burn him since burning the leeches killed Robb Stark so lets sacrifice the whole kid. Ser Davos frees Gendry and puts him on a rowboat. They capture Ser Davos but before Stannis can punish him, Davos tells him about the message from the Nightwatch that the White Walkers are coming and everyone needs to unite to fight them. Melisandre throws the message into the fire and confirms this. Stannis chuckles that the fire that Davos didn't believe in just saved his life.

Back at King's Landing, Varys tries to bribe Shae to leave so she isn't another complication for Tyrion. They both have names but no last names that mean anything like Lannister. Shae throws the money back and says if Tyrion wants her gone, tell her himself. Tyrion is trying to teach Podrick Payne how to be an alcoholic. "If it was easy, more people would do it." Cercei interrupts and they talk about how her kids mean the world to her... prevents her from jumping out the window. Yes, even Joffrey who was actually a cute baby before he turned into a crazy ass. Later on, Jaime Lannister finally makes it to King's Landing with Brienne and meets up with Cercei.

Daenarys and her crew are outside waiting for the doors to open. The doors finally do and all the slaves come out. Missandei tells them Daenarys has freed them but she interrupts and said they freed themselves. Everyone starts to chant Mhysa which Missandei says means "Mother." Show ends with them lifting Dany up and everyone is so happy. Zoom up from above and the Dragons fly at the screen. End credits.

I am not sure this is going to cut it to satisfy the masses after the Red Wedding. Stuff happens, but a lot of it feels like place holding. Good for Arya. Let the Frey pie making begin.

Yeah, pretty much the norm. I was hoping they'd do a little more to make up for last week, but maybe they need more time to build to the big stuff, which is better for the story overall.

Arya was awesome tonight. Glad she got to have a moment. Dinklage showed us why he's one of the best actors around tonight. That scene with him and Tywin was great. Joffrey was even shittier than usual.

I feel like we keep getting the same endings with Daenerys. I was a little underwhelmed with her final moment. I get where her story is going, but it just felt like the same scenes where she reigns triumphant that we've been getting for a while.

But, winter is still coming, and I liked that scene with Stannis and Melisandre, where they were all "Oh SHIT. Nevermind this Throne War nonsense." I mean, it's going to take us another 3-4 years, but when even they are afraid, you know it's all gonna go down. Hope they payoff is grand.

Stannis and Melisandre realizing that oh crap, things are bad beyond the wall was a good moment.

I felt that Samwell really stepped up in this episode. He seemed almost...brave. Wha?!

All told, it felt more like a mid-season episode than a season finale. Last season, it was tough to top the Battle of the Blackwater but at least we got the House of the Undying payoff in the season 2 finale.

I had a real problem with Arya's POV this week. It seemed like at the beginning of the episode, we pick up where the RW left off and Arya isn't knocked out anymore? I did not care for her seeing Robb with Grey Wind's head mounted on him. Then later the Hound was powerless to stop her from approaching the Frey men? Seemed like he would have been, "Not so fast, there".

But, what I thought was really stupid was the Ygritte scene. How did she catch up to Jon? Where are the rest of the Wildings? It would have made more sense for Jon to get shot with an arrow in episode 9.

Not directed to you personally but I've read this sentiment express by others. "Make up for last week?" What do they have to make up for? It was in the book. What did they do last week except translate the book's events on the show and thereby deliver one of the most shocking, unforgettable episodes of television most of us have ever seen?

People want a "happy ending"? It's been three seasons and counting, who doesn't understand yet what Game of Thrones is, what kind of story this is and what rules the series plays by? This show is going to run for a long, long time.**

What do they have to make up for?

People want hope? Daenerys Targaryen is your hope. Every season, the show reaffirms this in its finale. That girl is the best chance Westeros has.

Not a happy ending, just a catharsis. Yes, it did end on a happy note last night. A few, even. Ser Davos got to live after saving Gendry. Jon Snow made it back to the Night's Watch. Arya punked some dude who mocked her family after the tragedy. I wasn't looking for happy, but Arya came close.

If you've read the books...

A Lannister death. They have one in the chamber, but I guess we won't get it till next year. Just someone knock that kid on his ass. I know it's coming later, I was just hoping that, knowing the length between seasons, they'd give us a little something to let us know that the Lannisters won't be really getting one over.

At least they strongly hinted at unrest in that brilliant scene at the beginning, that was something.

Look, I'm sure you're not the only person guilty of this but seeing as you keep (The W) fucking (The W) doing it (The W) I shall direct it primarily in your direction.

Can we please, pretty please, with sprinkles and cherries on top, stop with the not-nearly-as-oblique-as-you-presumably-think-they-are references to upcoming events in the book?

I mean, I'm sure you aren't *intentionally* spoiling things for people but because I have eyes and opposable thumbs, from reading these posts I can reasonably deduce that something unpleasant happens to someone unpleasant at Joffrey's wedding. I can actually take that a stage farther (I'll stick it in spoiler tags just in case I've been blessed with some rare Sherlockian powers of deductive reasoning) and say

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read
it's Joffery, isn't it? I'd bet my right fucking bollock on it. Joffrey snuffs it. Tywin's more affably evil and Cersei's influence has been on the wane, so it's fairly obviously Joffrey.

And even if it isn't and the unpleasant thing happens to some other unpleasant person (for the avoidance of doubt, the "isn't it?" above is rhetorical), it still won't be nearly the surprise it *could* have been because I'm now set up to expect something. So thanks.

Moreover, what is the point in even making comments like this? I mean:

So those who have read the books already know about what you're referring to and those who don't either won't give a tuppenny fuck or (in the case of the previous example) will be able to take a very small logical leap to a spoiler. Dany is, as things stand for us TV watchers, unquestionably a ray of hope. I don't give a shit about whether that changes in the books. I'd like to find out when it happens on my tellybox.

Is it just that we're we all meant to be struck down with amazement at your mad book readin' skillz? I grant you, your posting history means I'm a little impressed that you've negotiated a tome which isn't written entirely in monosyllables, but I'm over that initial moment of awe and wonderment now. Besides, I suspect audio books are afoot.

If you're that desperate to talk about the books, there's a Print forum RIGHT THERE, so go have it. But in threads about the TV show, how about sticking to what happened on TV?

Disclaimer: This is in no way directed at Quezzy, who last week did a perfectly good job of giving a helpful answer (The W) to a specific question without giving anything away. It is entirely directed at person(s) who make unprompted references to specific upcoming events that are invariably about 10% as well veiled as they THINK they are. Those guys are dicks.

Darn tootin'. I've gone from wanting to see the Hound wind up on the end of something pointy to having him be one of my favourite characters in about five episodes. Actually, just about everyone who spends significant time with Arya is pretty great now that I think about it. That girl be awesome.

Thank you. I realize that these are based on books, but for those of us who are watching the show simply as a show the constant "hint hint" references are not just highly annoying, but given the way the tv show often diverges from the books they're pretty much pointless.

I really feel like these seasons are too short. Ten episodes - even lengthier episodes - are barely enough time to get in everything enough for it to make sense. It really could have benefited from two more episodes.

You are right:

I re-watched the scene with the Hound and he does ask if that was the first man she has killed and she re-affirms that it was "the first man."

Absolutely not. My favorite moment in the entire series so far is when Tyrion totally fucks with him & cuts off his beard.

I liked this episode. Roberta's character showed more depth then anyone on the show which is the real shocker. The Tie Fighter was a great laugh. I think we are seeing some fat trimming with Cleveland throwing his one of his friends off his porch.
