Your profile page (The W) now displays the average of all the ratings you've given out to other people, so if you're one of those people who gives out nothing but zeros people WILL MAY figure it out sooner or later. Hopefully you follow the example of your admins, who both appear to have nice bell curves...even if one of us hasn't done much voting this time around.
Keep in mind you can always bump ANY rating you've left up or down as needed - or, remove it altogether if you are so inclined! IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE
Note that I don't encourage "retaliatory rating" - well, I don't work very hard to DIScourage it either, I guess. Eh.
I will now hear complaints about this data being made public...
Well...I WAS going to complain, but mine actually looks OK.
I was worried because I have a bad(?) habit of giving trolls/troll-like behavior low ratings. I thought my curve might be lower because of that, but I guess I was nice enough to others as well.
On that subject...does anyone else bother rating the bad or one-time flame posters at all? I use the ratings in the hopes that high/low ratings will either encourage/discourage them to post more/less.
Of course, I'm assuming that's part of what the ratings were meant for?
I was amazed when I looked at mine and saw that my average rating was 5.01. I thought it would be higher, but when I look at the details, I see I have rated lots of people very high (lots of 8s, 9s and 10s), but have a LOT of zeroes I gave out to those one-time trollers and the like. Is that how we ought to be doing things with those trollers? Or is ignoring the better avenue?

Same here, and my average is damn low because of it. However, when I'm passing out these zeros to the one-time trollers, I dont realize they're only going to be OTT's at at the time (most of the time). Maybe I should slow down & see where they're headed after a few posts before I zero them?

Especially since I just noticed while playing around with the rating controls you can't undo ratings for people that have been banned.
"Did you get your Journalism degree from a box of Cocoa Puffs?"
I have given out ratings thus far for only two reasons: I give someone a zero if I want them to go away, or I give someone a 10 because I was playing with the ratings trying to figure out how they're weighted (I think I have a very rough idea of this, but I bet I'm way off). There's 21 of the former, though, and only two of the latter.
I was shocked to find that I'd actually given out 317 ratings since sweeps. And only four of them are zeroes! (This is what happens when you stop visiting the Wrestling forum, eh?)
I should probably bump some of these up a bit. A bunch of you have distinguished yourselves beyond just a generic '5'.
I usually don't bother with giving out 0 or 1's to the trollers, but if they say something really offensive to me, then I do it. I think that I stay on the positive side though, and my 6.86 average would emphasize that fact.
(Now if only I had kept my mouth shut on defending Jerry Falwell, I might not be so low myself)[/disgruntled]
For all your CZW and Nickels Trivia information. There will be a huge Survivor Series match at Nickels in-between the big IWS/CZW Double Show on July 9'th!
I deleted the 0 I gave to the ITunes Advertisement, as well as a 1 I gave to someone who is now inactive. That raised my average score to 5, with 2 votes cast. I'd delete that other 0, but it's a banned user, so there's nothing I can do about that. (The user who received the 10 which balances the remaining 0 shall remain nameless. But he deserves that 10.)
