Hey Fuelinjected and gladiator, go back and read my first post. In AMERICA, the AMERICAN CONGRESS voted to change the holiday that we celebrate IN AMERICA to Veterans Day, after WE recognised that there were more AMERICANS responsible for AMERICAS freedom. Its purpose is no longer just to celebrate the end of the first World War, at least not here in AMERICA. So, OUR Veterans Day is OUR holiday. Just because its ORIGINS were in a multinational day, doesnt make it still a Multinational holiday HERE IN AMERICA.

Oh, and Fuelinjected, you are right, I am an arrogant SOB. Everybody around the globe complains that we were late getting into everybody elses war, two seperate times, as a matter of fact, but, you all still wanted us there.
I know we didnt win them on our own, thats what Hogans Heros showed us, they had French Guys and British guys in there with us. (Of course, it was an AMERICAN leading the way there) And, lets face it, if a country tried to invade Canada, to I dont know, steal your wheat or fresh water, how long do you think your country would survive without our help?

So, in closing, just because you celebrate a holiday for the end of the first world war, forgive us in America for caring less!

As long as we remember the veterans who died to give us our freedom, it doesn't matter where they were from or what flag is flying. Remembrance/veterans/Armistice/whatever it may be called elsewhere Day is about taking the time to remember and honor the dead. Remembrance is, by definition, a personal and inner thing. Getting upset about what flags are flying where or who says what is fine but it's not really in the spirit of the day. Just my 2 cents (Canadian) worth.

I'm American, but I'd imagine that they'd do fine as invading Canada would entail the same difficulties as invading America would: fighting a trans-continental war. Trust me: if we weren't an ocean away, your name would probably be Hiro by now.

This is a GLOBAL holiday. Christmas is called hundreds of different names in hundreds of different languages and most other nations celebrate it on 25 December. Do you say that we have AMERICAN Christmas, totally separate from other nation?

It's imporant one recognizes the context this holiday is held in and not confuse it with Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is America's holiday to set aside specifically to honor its veterans. Veterans Day celebrates the collective sacrifice of American veterans and their allies in wartime.

While I couldn't care less about the context of some stupid wrestling announcer who's said much dumber things in the past, I couldn't let go of the fact that were warned not to confuse Veterans Day and Memorial Day, then the definition provided to us does exactly that.

From the VA website:

"Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle.
While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty. "

Veterans/Rememberance Day is NOT a global holiday. The allies involved in WWI have Remembrance Day as a day to honor THEIR respective troops who have died fighting for THEIR country. I looked it up, and haven't read any allied country's interpretation of Rememberance Day as a day of remembering the war dead of other countries. Unless (God forbid!) we all become world citizens, we should not interpret this day as anything except honoring those who fought for YOUR colors and what they stand for.

God, I thought the same thing, and so help me, I thought it was damned cool that he IS a jobber...

As far as the flag note, I will admit I cringed when I heard that comment by JR. I mean, the whole "Vetrans/Rememberance day" argument aside, there is no reason that a forign national in this country competing should not be allowed to carry their own flag. I mean, this is supposed to be "WORLD" wrestling. It is, in name, intended to be an international forum for wrestlers to compete. Regardless of where the event is held, or the company based, Lance and Regal are not Americans, and have every right to carry flags from their home nations to the ring, regardless of the holiday. Now JR's comments would make a LOT more sense had they come out and trashed the American Vetran's day, but they did not. The comment was very out of place and quite ethnocentric. Last time I checked, both the UK and Canada were both soverign nations not bound by American customs, and they have every right to display their flags, no matter where they are or what nationality they are. We do, after all, Very much prize our "First Ammendment." How does that not apply here?

"because not only do REAL Americans respect and honor our veterans, but also the veterans of our allies."

Try being British and having your war efforts ignored whenever Hollywood wants to boast about how big the U.S's metaphorical dick is. Then stop being so self-righteous. And don't get so fucking worked up because JR made one patriotic and yet respectful comment regarding what flag he wanted flying IN AMERICA on the AMERICAN holiday. This is creating controversy for controversy's sake.

And that's coming from a Limey. Deal.

You are upset because holywood makes movies where the US wins all the world wars? So, make some movies over there in Great Britain about it! Like we give a Rats Ass about who did what. Hitler spread his troops too thin, and couldn't sustain the war effort.

We bombed the hell out of Japan.

You defended your island admirably.

What else is there that upsets you? That Britian's military gets no respect?

If the british army was so great, two things, 1)they wouldnt have lost to a bunch of farmers and people who werent even a country yet, back in the American Revolution, and 2) you wouldnt have NEEDED us in the World Wars.

Since you quoted ME, I'll respond by letting you know that when you use Hollywood as your focal point in your argument. Hollywood has historically and notoriously depicted races, nations, and lifestyles as caricatures of their true selves. Ask African-Americans or Latinos or gays... But if that gets you excited and makes you think that I am self-righteous, well, then I'm afraid you'll have to bite me.

I am an Army Brat, whose had several family members serve in war and peacetime. Maybe my respect level for military veterans is greater than others, but it's not considered self-righteous to be patriotic. I'm not getting worked up over a comment that JR made, in fact, I said that everyone should calm down. Maybe you didn't make it that far down my post, who knows?

JR is someone who couldn't tell the Hardy's apart, until one of them was over on the other show. That's probably how he can tell Chris Benoit or Chris Jericho apart. I don't put a lot into what he says because he misspoke several times during last night's show. To go to this extreme of arguing and disrespecting each other is petty and it's no wonder this thread has gotten so long. I even doubt that Galidor still feels as strongly as he did last night, but that's just me thinking.

Anywhoo....

since every other wiener has chimed in on this one, I will too.
"Wait a minute - we're supposed to listen to JR?"

I love living Veterans - especially me (a cold warrior, no wartime) and my Dad (The Big One). And for the ones who have served, either here in the States or in freedom loving countries everywhere, like Canada and the UK and even the freakin' Frogs, I give my thanks.

And to the rest of you: Calm down. Shouldn't we be talking about how well Kane and Van Damm can take a chairshot? That was some superior fake-fighting last night.

This is why I love the Internet! I come on here this morning, expecting everyone to be in an outrage about HHH's "God" comment. Meanwhile, we have already have a 2-page thread going about a simple lack of judgment by an announcer with a live mic and Vince McMahon screaming in his ear.

Multi points here:
1) And they say we are bad in the politics forum.
2) Jim Ross is an idiot. Haven't we already figured that out. The guy is now in Schiavone territory, so why pay attention.
3) I'm still pissed that it is no longer Gay Indian Liberation Day. And until there is a parade, Les Nesman will be held hostage in a plane with a bunch of turkeys (Remember, turkeys can fly).

It's clear that there is a need for sensitivity training.

That's right, training so people can learn NOT to be SO DAMN SENSITIVE!!!!!!!!!! He's just a freakin' wrestling announcer! Who gives a rat's ass about what J.R. says?

I'm somewhat amused how some people from other nations are constantly seeking our (U.S.) approval and adulation. Trust me, if the shoe is on the other foot, I would not be offended at all. Not one iota.

Ticamo-apologies. The first part of my post was aimed at you, not as an insult at all. The second part, which I should've made clearer, was aimed at those getting their panties in a twist over a throwaway comment by a wrestling announcer.

And StaggerLee, I really hope that arrogance gets you punched in the face one day. God knows you're not the only person to deserve it. And please, no more revisionist history.

But seriously, if that's the case, given the option I'd watch Foley win the title. Then again, I'd rather not see either of them win the belt. That was during my anti-WWF period.
