I've decided it's time to finally put my Wii to pasture (read: just sell it, really) and I'm not sure whether to decide between a 360 or PS3 for my gaming pleasure. I'm fairly versatile when it comes to gaming interest, well, except RPG's and multiplayer/online play. Wisdom please?

as a PS3 owner, I'd say go with the 360. There's some winds of change blowing 'round the PSN, and while it might seem irksome to pay for the "privilege" of playing online, in the long run you'll probably end up happier.

On the flip side, there's the BD capability.

I don't play online alot but some of my friends do and it's on the PS3.

So far, every game I've on online with (FPSs) have been free. Can't say the same for the 360.

Now, Sony is letting companies charge for online access but that is only a problem for 2nd hand owners (used copies/renters) as you need a serial code to go online with EA games. That is a per game charge while the 360 online fee is charged to the system and is good for all games. If you buy alot of used games for the PS3 and want to go online with them, it might be cheaper in the long run to go PC or 360 for your gaming needs, depending on the game (if they charge a fee for 2nd hand use), and cost of that fee, and how many games in the future you're getting that way that have a fee.

I thought the games for the 360 used the online pass thing too?

Honestly, either one will probably be fine for whatever you want to do, most of the big name games are multiplatform, and play equally fine, so just look at whatever exclusives tickle your fancy, and go from there.

I'm just fine with my PS3, and it seems a bit more versatile, what with its Blu-Ray functionality and non-proprietary hard drive, should you choose to upgrade it.

If all your friends are playing Call of Duty on the 360, well.

I'm not sure anyone will ever come up with another controller that will surpass the classic dual analog Playstation controller in terms of comfort, usability, and general awesomeness. It might seem like a small thing, but think about it: until every game is played via motion controls, there's no way to NOT notice your game controller. That alone has made me a PS/PS2/PS3 man for years.

I recently bought an Xbox 360* to go along with my Wii and PS3 and I still cannot get over how awkward the Xbox controller is. I've already ordered an adapter that will hopefully allow me to use a standard PS2 controller with my Xbox.

*This purchase is my 9th seventh generation console. I bought all three systems on their respective launch days and subsequently sold them all on eBay after varying amounts of use. I bought and sold another 2 Wiis on eBay, and I also had another PS3 that was stolen in a home break in.

I don't know, I like the 360 controller so much more than the PS3. I had a hard time changing over to the xbox controller at first. Once I got used to it, I was changed for life.

When I play my PS3 the control feels a bit uncomfortable. It probably has more to do with what system I play with the most and muscle memory. However, I feel that the layout of the trigger buttons on the 360 controller are far superior to PS3.

PS3 may run a bit more than the 360. However if you want your xbox 360 to truly be comparable to what the PS3 offers with their price, you will need to shell out some extra cash. You are Likely to match or surpass the total cost of the PS3 but at least you will have the choice. (this may have changed with the new versions of 360)

In either case, I think that you are going to be happy with either of the two systems. I love both my systems. the little nuances that make the systems different don't much matter to me.

I've went and adopted the Sony family for my gaming needs. And I think Portal 2 is the ideal game to get me used to the controls. Even on a normal TV like mine, them pictures are pretty! Shoulda sold the Wii long ago.

The consensus I've reached is that if you are big into online gaming, then XBOX all the way. If online isn't a big selling point, then PS3 by a mile.

PS3 has better exclusives IMO, and you get a blu ray.

This.

Exact reason why I ended up buying the PS3. Love my XBOX 360, but I missed the PS Exclusives.

The Uncharted games are incredible, JST, you should get the double pack of 1 and 2.

All depends on first party exclusives. People mentioned Uncharted, that's a solid exclusive. On the 360 side you get Halo and Gears of Wars )plus a couple of others).

I prefer the online service of the 360, regardless if you have to pay for it or not. And I prefer the 360 controller as well, but that is also preferences.

I'm also buying Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in November, with the intention of actually completing it.

I find Halo incredibly overrated, but even given that, what do you have besides those two? With PS3 you get:

-God of War
-Infamous
-Resistance (Every bit as good as Gears or Halo with a much cooler story IMO)
-Little Big Planet
-Gran Turismo
-Metal Gear
-Killzone

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_games_exclusives_%28seventh_generation%29#Microsoft_Xbox_360 , there is also:
Crackdown (which was a good game; the sequel was panned because it was exactly the same game).
Fable II and III.
Left 4 Dead and its sequel were console exclusives, the only option if you didn't want to play it on PC.

I'll wait until it starts hovering around the $300 mark, myself. Unless they blow me the hell away with a few games that I absolutely have to have.
