With the recent "Rockers reunite" thread it got me to thinking about how stars use their powers to push friends.

Hulk Hogan is most notably the man in power that brings his friends along. Bret Hart, Vince Russo, and Eric Bischoff are also big offenders. Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and a list of who's who has used their political clout, but what happened to Marty Janetty?

Shawn Michaels, the leader of the Clique (as perceived by most) never brought in his partner from 1985 and beyond, why?

Janetty was more talented then Hart's Anvil, more charismatic than Russo's Runnels, more mic skills then Bischoff's Cat, and a better entertainer than Hogan's Barber, so why was he forgotten?

Every tag team has a more dominate member. Blanchard, Hawk, Eaton, Nikita, and Morton were the better of their respected tag teams, but the partners were only a step below. Marty was just as good as Shawn, the only difference was Shawn was given the opportunity to change his character.

Hogan has Beefcake, Saggs, Nobbs, and Duggan (among others), Hart has all his brothers, and brother-in-laws, Russo and Bischoff had the list of favorites also, but what about the Clique?

Hall and Nash had Waltman, and brought him in. Someone had Credible and brought him in. Shawn Michaels was WWF champion, and forgot about the man who helped get him there. Where would Shawn Michaels be without the kick through the plate glass? A few places come to mind: Martel, Warlord, or Haku careers.

I wanna know the back story of HBK and MJ, why will Shawn Michaels go into wrestling history mentioned with Sammartino,Hogan and Flair, but Janetty will get less than a Dennis Condrey reference.

Flag on the play! The WWF brought in Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, the Dynamite Kid, Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart from Stampede Wrestling in the early 1980s after the Stampede buyout. The Hitman didn't exist yet. He had no clout. I could argue that these guys hung around because they deserved it.

I'm pretty sure Owen wasn't signed until later. But back to the Rocker's situation, weren't they not speaking to each other? And with Marty's problems with drugs I assume Vince didn't want him (Except for his run against Shawn, and again when he came in as Razor Ramon's friend, and ended up starting the New Rockers) Now that Marty is cleaning up his life style, I can see the Rocker's reforming for at least a night.

Alot of it was drugs, Jannetty had knack for finding trouble. Let me refere you to...

Janetty gives maybe the best shoot interviews i've heard (I've never heard the RF shoots...sorry) A must hear for anyone who grew up on that era of wrestling. And it should answer most of your questions.

If you've got the Shawn Michaels From the Vault DVD, watch the extra where he kicks Marty through the barbershop window. After listening to Marty awkwardly spout a few lines of dialogue, you'll understand why they went with Shawn.

For the love of God, he throws him through it. Dammit dammit. In any case, they went with Shawn for other reasons too. One is he backstabbed Marty with that WCW thing, plus he was taller. I don't think he was a better worker at that point, but I guess it's too late now. I wanted to go to that wrestling school Marty runs in Florida, but I guess that's off now.

I know, I know... he kicked him, then threw him. But when legend becomes fact, print the legend.

For what it's worth, HMD, I would have totally read any journal posts that you would've made from wrestling school.

IIRC, Jannetty was fired from the WWF for drug issues shortly after they shot the breakup angle and before they even got to start the subsequent feud, hence Shawn/Tito at Mania 8 instead of Shawn/Marty. They brought him back at the end of '92 to finally do a program with Shawn, and they did that angle with Sherri and the match at the Royal Rumble. Then I'm pretty sure he was fired for disciplinary reasons *again*, once again cutting the feud short. Then they brought him back a second time in '93 when he won the IC belt on Raw. This time he managed to stick around for a little while, but the feud ran its course and there were bigger things for Shawn to do (like briefly quit the company, then briefly retire to manage Diesel -- but things kind of picked up for him after that). Still, more than Marty's repeated flakeouts, the reason Shawn became such a bigger star than Marty was because he was a whole lot better than him. Not that Jannetty wasn't a good worker, but even in 1990 and '91, the Observer was calling Michaels one of the three best workers in the WWF.

And while some (most?) of those 'disciplnary reasons' for firing Jannetty were true, some weren't, and according to Jannetty (and no one involved has argued this yet to my knowledge) it was Michaels going to Vince about the made-up ones as a way of deflecting any heat that Michaels may get for having a bad match with Jannetty ("Don't bury me for having a bad match. Jannetty was stoned, blame him"). That would explain why Michaels was never keen on bringing him back.

According to Jannetty, it was Hennig that got his job back by ratting out that Michaels was the one that was 'unfit to work' and not Jannetty for the last time that Jannetty was fired for it.

Heh, thanks man. If I do end up doing it, I'll be sure to keep a log of it and publish it here. Won't be too soon, I want to give myself a year to get myself in serious shape.

Because Janetty, the rat, started writing about the inside of wrestling under an assumed name. Between that, and his hair shampoo commercials, nobody wanted anything to do with him. By the time he stopped writing and settled down, he was all washed up.

Wasn't it also rumored that Sean was more "affectionate" than Marty?

Yep, and ew! I've seen/heard the rumors of Shawn being quite the affectionate one backstage. I don't believe a word of it since no one credible has really backed it up.

I would love to see a clean and sober Marty come in for a little while just to make me mark the f*ck out for the Rockers reunion (complete with a double superkick and/or Rocker Dropper to some random punk).

[warning: off topic, kinda!] Am I the only one who thought of the Garth Brooks song when he read the title of this thread. Took me back a few years to drunken karaoke nights! Champ for 6 long months, baby!

Two hours later they decided to stop at a diner
Because they loved the smell of eggs and coffee
I just had to smoke a cigarette and wear a hat
By the time that they set off again, the sun was starting to set
It made the sky look red like a nuclear ray
One of them said "what do you want more than anything
in this whole wide world
Do you want money, do you want sex, or do you want all that success?"
I thought about that one myself
(Then they came upon the thing)
