So we had another entertaining Friendly Tap skit tonight. I was just trying to recall the other ones, and I think I'm forgetting something. Here's what I remember:

APA and New Age Outlaws brawl before a PPV match (before a Royal Rumble, I think)

APA was in another one, was it with the Dudleys? Not sure.

Austin goes to sulk because he can't muster up "The Ol' Stone Cold!" before Invasion. He eventaully gets fired up by a Freddie Blassie speech on TV and kicks ass.

Of course tongiht APA get their asses handed to them by Billy and Chuck.

Does anyone remember the details on the other APA brawls?

"Hey Timmy. Look, uh, Godfather's gimmick isn't going as well as planned, so no more post-match ho-lovin' for you."

"Hey Tim, good to see you again. Look, since we're here, we'll give you another plug for the bar. But, uh, it's gonna be gay for tonight. I'm sure it won't do anything to your business, everybody knows it's fake."

February is Shit On Tim White Month.

It's also Black History Month, which is why Booker T. escaped the vicious hand of RACISM and got a win over Rikishi tonight.

Right after he was in a racist skit with Test.

But at least it wasn't black/white racism! And that's all that matters in America! T & T! APA! Dudleyz! WWF = racial harmony!

God bless us all!

if the test / booker t backstage skit was racist, then you're a homophobe for saying it's a slag on tim white to make the friendly tap out as a gay bar.

SPREAD THE LOVE!

(there was also an edge and christian fight in the bar.)

Perhaps.

I was shooting for the angle of realism, thus the line about the business the bar might do now, as opposed to saying "EWW GAY BAR IS EVIL GAY GAY".

Anybody can say anything about how much they're for gay rights, including me, which I am, but that obviously means nothing.

Fact of the matter is, society in general doesn't really respond well to homosexuality. Call me stereotyping, and you should, but let's say Joe Beer Drinker who goes to the Friendly Tap likes to get drunk, and can relate to, say, the APA because they like naked girls and beer, would probably not be in a rush to go back there if they thought their hangout was now "gay". They might even react to it as "comically" as the APA did.

Of course, this is also me stereotyping drunk wrestling fans as STUPID, which I admit to doing because it's TRUE.

This is where I expected myself to say "Hey Fab, it's cool as hell that you can be openly out on a message board and equally cool not to get jumped on for it" but then I'd end up coming off like Zack Morris did when he dated that wheelchair-bound girl on Saved By The Bell. Like the person, not the cause!

But anyway... yeah. I will say that I like how things are progressing in the Wrestling Acceptance Society in general, however slowly they may be. I think Billy & Chuck just make the fans go "whatever" instead of the "FAGGOT" tauntings that Lenny & Lodi got. Sure, it meant more heat for the latter, but you can tell that some of that shit wasn't from guys who hated them because they were heels.

I thought I'd be more upset at being called a homophobe, but I guess if that's what I came off as, then ya calls 'em like ya sees 'em, Fab.

interesting.

like your line about the bar was actually about their business, my line about homophobia was actually about your "racism" comment.

let me reverse (and reword) my comment: IF you think the friendly tap skit was homophobic, THEN you think the booker t skit was racist.

i've been in a few gay bars in my day and none of them looked like the friendly tap. there was not ONE neon busch sign with a rainbow! real life trannies look like tall women with big hands and adam's apples, not the mental ward patients two stepping on tonight's show. it was just plain unrealistic.

if joe beer drinker actually thought it was a gay bar - and i wouldn't put it past him - odds are he wouldn't travel to whatever city the bar is in and NOT go there because he didn't know if it was "men's night" or not. the place looks like it thrives on regulars and the regulars certainly wouldn't be fooled. so, odds are it WON'T have an affect on business.

what i should have done in the first place was say i didn't find the booker t skit racist and ask you why you thought so. if you were going to be so quick to say "racist", i was going to be just as quick to say "homophobe". there was confusion. that's one of the problems with using such hot button words.

I think the depiction was way too goofy to offend anyone.
It was a risk, though, because on one side there's the GLAAD crowd, and on the other the PTC.

All I can say is, OMG the HOT NEWZ guy was right!

How often has this statement ever been said?

ANYWAY, to answer the original question of the thread, I can think of a couple more Friendly Tap bar fights the APA were in. The first one ever, I believe was sometime in the Fall of 1999, after Satanic Undertaker left because of his debilitating groin injury and the Acolytes had no one to acolyte for. They went into the bar and got in a confrontation with some guy who wanted to arm wrestle Bradshaw. When Bradshaw won, the guy called Faarooq a darky, which led to a fight where the APA beat up the entire bar and pretty much trashed the place.

The only other one that hasn't been mentioned is a forgettable one where the APA beat up Kaientai in the bar. I only remember it because of a humorous PTC article where the writer described the actions as the Acolytes beating up Japanese wrestlers "Kai" and "Tai." I have no idea when this one took place. I thought it was before Taka's RR2000 injury, but I couldn't find it in CRZ's archives.

I remember that one, I seem to recall it involved Kaientai trying to buy the APA's friendship by introducing them to the joys of Sake... I too was unable to find it in the archives, but I'm at work and can't dig around extensively... I seem to recall Farooq saying "Sake to me baby!" though, but that could just be wishful thinking...

Well, I think I pretty much fucked myself.

I didn't find the bar skit to be homophobic (because of WTF13 said), but then explained why it would be.

So... I'm stupid.

I remember that one more clearly now that you've mentioned it. There was a classic APA moment where Edge & Christian sent Just Joe to lay out the challenge to the APA in their office that went something like:

Joe: Faarooq, Bradshaw... Edge & Christian are at a bar and they just challenged you to a bar fight!

(The APA are playing cards and keep ignoring Joe.)

Joe: They said they would beat your asses...

Faarooq: (stands up) WHAT? They said that!? (sits back down and laughs) You gotta learn to lighten up, man...

(Eventually Bradshaw throws a beer can at Joe to chase him away.)

Faarooq: Hey... we're outta beer!

Bradshaw: I hear there's a bar around here. (smirks) We might even run into someone we know!

(They get up and leave.)

I was always disappointed that I didn't get that segment on tape. It was really funny.
