| #1 Posted on 5.6.09 2245.21 | Instant Rating: 4.16 | The Cutting Edge for the opening segment with Jeff Hardy as guest. Several ladders are in the ring as Jeff acsends one and tells Edge to address him up there. Edge aludes to knocking Jeff down a peg each time in a very effective showcase of how miles apart these two are on the stick. One thing leads to another and Edge shoves the dangling belt into Jeff's head a couple of times before knocking him off and into the ropes then to the floor.
John Morrison v. Shelton Benjamin
Very solid match between these two sees John Morrison get the W after delivering the Starship Pain.
Chris Jericho v. R-Truth
Jericho comes out and addresses the crowd as usual when R-Truth interrupts and engages the crowd in What's up. He cannot however engage Jericho as Y2J hilariously just looks at the microphone. The then beats Truth with the Codebreaker. RUn in my Rey at the end of the match.
CM Punk v. Umaga
I thought this was an outstanding match. Umaga's hair was unbraided and long - has it been like this for a while? I can't remember. Umaga eats a knee in the corner but shrugs it off only to be caught by the GTS - yes! Punk delivers the GTS to Umaga. Wow. Punk wins.
Layla, Candice Michelle, & Alicia Fox v. Melina, Eve, & Gail Kim in a 6 Diva Tag Team Match (Special ref = Maria)
The return of Candice Michelle! Nothing too special but not bad. Bad girls win.
The Great Khali v. Dolph Ziggler
Lots of offense for Dolph before Khali wins after a chokeslam. JR really likes Dolph.
Edge v. Rey Mysterio
Back and forth match for a good while but Edge picks up the win after a spear. Further assault at the end with a ladder but Jeff intervenes on Rey's behalf. Precusor to the Extreme Rules match with Jeff over the ladder with a leg drop. End show. Pretty good one really - good amounts of wrestling with the main event being a good capper. | Promote this thread! | | miknight

| #2 Posted on 5.6.09 2359.37 | Just a couple of thoughts.
R-Truth actually did get Jericho to engage with him as he had some effective mic time for the first time that i can recall on smackdown. The catch phrase at the end wasn't anything special but the meat of it was well above par.
Also i'll go out on a limb and say that Dolph Ziggler gave Khali his best match to date. The story of a tough heel proving himself and actually getting in some relevent offense is always fun when paired up against a face that you don't necessarily like and this really did alot to establish Dolph as a bit of a baddass.
and lastly, I'm about as huge a fan of Morrison as there is, and i'm hoping that this is the last we see of him and Shelton feuding despite their consistently top notch matches. Shelton has become a black hole when it comes to getting any heat off of him due to the fact that he himself is a failed experiment beyond midcard level (his HHH work being the only mild exception). Unless Morrison steps up and starts beating world title contenders, he could stagnate very quickly. Jericho, Mysterio, Kane, Khali, Umaga and CM Punk would all be notable scalps to take for differing reasons. In the cases of guys like Kane and Khali it shouldn't even be a feud, just a one and done deal as he heads up the ladder.
There's more but that's enough for now.

A lot of good young talent on Smackdown now. Let's hope one or two of them get THE PUSH after Hardy/Edge gets settled. | John Orquiola

I liked how Shelton worked on the leg to take away Starship Pain and gets pinned by Starship Pain. Shelton has become Wile E. Coyote to Morrison's Road Runner.
Morrison is clearly meant for bigger and better things. The announcers can't stop talking about how great he is and use his Shaman of Sexy and Guru of Greatness names in a non-sarcastic, non-derogatory manner.
I think regardless of the outcome of Hardy and Edge it's still too soon to match Morrison for the World Title. They're building him for a top spot nicely and I like the slow burn. I'd say he's still a few months away from being in a position to go after the World belt and have the fans really hungering for him to have it. A stop at the IC belt makes the most sense for him now. Especially if Jericho has that belt. A feud with those two would be pretty sweet.

That would be an awesome nickname for him instead of the Gold Standard. Matt Hardy is The Black Cloud, but Shelton could be The Black Hole. | Nenz

My bad. I *always* get these two confused. I was only half-paying attention to this match (mostly listening) and thought it was odd that Candice was in a match at all. I should have double-check that one. | FLRockAndLaw

+10.
So that would make Vince McMahon Dr. Hans Reinhardt, no doubt. But does that mean Phil Mushnick is Harry Booth? And does that make Triple H Capt. Dan Holland?
