'American Idol' Finalist Axed for Porn Site Pose
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A finalist on the hit Fox TV reality show "American Idol" has been kicked off the program following the discovery that she posed topless on a porn Web site that purports to feature underage girls.
Frenchie Davis, a 23-year-old singer whose powerhouse vocals dazzled the judges and made her a strong contender for the title, was dismissed from the popular show on Tuesday, a spokesman for Fox said.
"Frenchie Davis has been disqualified," Fox spokesman Scott Grogin said. "Issues arose from her background check that the producers and the network felt forced them to disqualify her."
A source close to the show said Davis had appeared on the Internet porn site, prompting her dismissal.
Davis, from Washington, D.C., will be replaced on the Feb. 25 episode of "American Idol" by an alternate.
Davis, who could not immediately be reached for comment, becomes the latest reality show contestant whose newfound fame has been overshadowed by revelations about her past.
In January, Sarah Kozer, a finalist on the Fox reality show "Joe Millionaire," conceded that she had starred in dozens of soft core bondage and fetish films while she was attending law school. The show's faux millionaire, Evan Marriott, first billed as a construction worker, also acknowledged that he had modeled underwear.
Both programs have been ratings winners for Fox, which is owned by News Corp. Ltd.

Gee, this smells of ratings ploy. I saw a piece last night with the producers who said they knew of this back in November and just now decided to kick her out of the competition. Hmmmm.

| #4 Posted on 13.2.03 0805.24 | She's not running for office - she's on a reality television show looking to win a recording contract. Why in the world does this matter?
EDIT: Not to mention the fact that she was the only one I saw who seemed talented enough to sustain a musical career after the novelty of the show wore off.
Of course, if I had a record company, I'd sign her to a contract today. Her combination of talent and exposure (no pun intended) would give me a liscence to print money, I'd imagine.

The news report I saw said that the producers of American Idol are still going to help her get a recording deal, she just can't be on the show anymore.
