They are 7.11 ounce cups. Pretty small, especially since the closest store to me is 44 miles away.

Here in Canada, it's 11/7. So I argued with the girl in 7-11 that we should be getting the free slurpees on the 7th of November. The look she gave was simply, "I don't get paid enough to have to deal with this."

I don't know why I had to be such an ass.

I was at 7-11 today and I saw the small-ass Dixie Cup-sized Slurpees, but since this is the very first time I've been anywhere near a 7-11 on 7/11, I didn't realize the significance. Even though I knew they were giving away free Slurpees. I thought they were gonna be full-sized or something.

But dascool. I got a refill of my Star Wars cup for $0.98.

Really??

See, I love to travel and see little differences like that.
In Quebec, KFC restaurants were called PFK.
In Ireland, TJ Maxx department stores were called TK Maxx.
It's like you're in a bizarro world where things are almost the same, but not quite.
I like movie posters when travelling--like "Home Alone" in France was something like "Mom! You Took the Family to the Airport but Forgot Me at Home!"

Some of those differences are here in the US too

It's Hellman's Mayonnaise in the East and Best Foods Mayonnaise in the West

It's Edy's Ice Cream in the East and Dreyer's Ice Cream in the West

I'm sure there are more....

Some of that is simply branding. Having worked in the food processing business a long time ago, you make your product and then slap different labels on it, depending on whose order your filling.

No, no, no. The point has been missed. Let me requote the original post in order to allow it to be found once again.

"Here in Canada, it's 11/7. So I argued with the girl in 7-11 ..."

In other words, the store is still called 7-11. In Canada, the 11th day of July is represented as 11/7. Hence, The Goon's contention that 7/11 should give away the free slurpees on November 7th in Canada, because that is their 7/11.

Makes perfect sense. He was talking about the date, not the store.

In Colorado, I saw a Burger Queen. Are they related to Burger Kings?

Although the official date structure here is day/month/year (smallest to largest), many people and companies have adopted day/month/year, which sometimes causes confusion. At work, I use two programs that date things in different ways.

What's REALLY confusing is that you typed the same thing both times. ;-)

I am so glad you posted that. I had this thread open while I was on the phone and kept scanning the paragraph, getting confused, and then being distracted by the person on the other line. My head hurts a lot less now.

D'oh! And usually I'm the one who makes fun of people for mistakes like that.

In summation, I think we should just go to month/day/year as a North American standard, and also to avoid my frequent work-related headaches.
