COLUMBIA, United States (AFP) - Singer James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul," was arrested on domestic assault charges at his home in South Carolina, police said.
Brown, 70, was taken into custody in the morning by officers called to his residence in Beech Island, Aiken County.
"Mr. Brown will remain in the county jail overnight, prior to his bond hearing on Thursday," said a staffer at the Aiken County Sheriff's office. "He has been charged with criminal domestic assault."
It was not Brown's first brush with the law.
The self-proclaimed "Hardest Working Man in Show Business" served a two-and-a-half year prison term after a 1988 arrest on drug and assault charges and was convicted of a drug-related offence 10 years later.
That's the cause of what happened and he's been released on bond since, but THIS is the funny part of the story:
"What kind of people go to a Prozzäk show?" asked Mika. "Apart from you, I mean." Well, there goes my joke answer. Judging from this show, I'd have to say 30-year-olds. And me. Which I guess makes sense.
