Another free fast food giveaway dealie: KFC is offering a free piece of grilled chicken to everyone who stops in today (Monday). This is part of launching their new non-fried chicken, which I'm pretty sure I recall them having tried at least once before. Still, happily there IS a KFC in my town, unlike with Denny's or Ben & Jerry's where I'd spend more getting there than I would just buying something comparable closer to home, so I guess I'll stop in and sample it.

There are two KFCs in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They are not participating in the promotion. :(

The KGC is not yet available in Canada, either. I can't wait until it is.

I bought a piece last week just to try it.

It's okay, I guess. Has kind of an odd aftertaste.

Now if Popeye's comes out with a grilled chicken using the seasoning they used to use on the naked chicken strips, I'm all over that.

In BIGGER fast-food news, the SONIC is opening at 136th & Meridian this morning at 10:00 am! I don't see myself going out of my way to eat anywhere else for the next week or so - free chicken or not.

Lucky. We get taunted with Sonic commercials here ALL THE TIME, even though there is not one close to me at all. I would love to try some of the concoctions they advertise.

As for KFC: I know it's terrible, but give me fried any day. I still love from one of the first 'Man Show' episodes: The KFC Bucket of Skin. I'm still pissed off that I can't get Crispy strips anymore; the original strips are just sad by comparison.

El Pollo Loco is countering with TWO free pieces of chicken (with tortillas and salsa) tomorrow until 8pm.

So if you like grilled chicken, and you have both a KFC and EPL near you, you know what to do.

EDIT: Got the day wrong.

WARNING: NOISY (until you find the mute button)

Those people....should not be dancing while eating. Yet, it's strangely hypnotic (even more so when muted) although it may reinforce certain perceptions some people have about folks of a certain race and their opinion of chicken (nydailynews.com). ;-)

Well, I had my piece for lunch. It was....okay? My problem is I'll never want KFC unless it's got extra crispy fried skin on it, so it doesn't matter HOW delicious that grilled stuff was; I'll never go to KFC for it. I mitigated these cravings by bringing along their Internet coupon for a $4.99 large popcorn chicken meal. I am now ready to EXPLODE with chicken!

(On the other hand, the buffet at my apparently recently renovated KFC NOW includes a tray full of livers AND a tray full of gizzards. I may have to go back to that buffet real soon now.)

They're pretty good but pricey. All over Kansas (started here I guess.). My wife and daughter love it. Actually my daughter prefers a local chain named Spangles that makes it when you order it with a 1950s theme.

I have to be honest here - I can't do KFC. When I get the fried chicken cravings, I have to get the 8-piece at our local Gelson's market. It's got WAY more flavor than KFC. I don't know - maybe there are 12 herbs and spices in Gelson's fried chicken instead of The Colonel's measly, sissified it-goes-up-to-eleven.

No matter what, though - after an 8 piece fried chicken binge, I always end up feeling like Leroy The Hut.

You're not alone. It sucks that for all the stores and restaurants we have here, there is not a Sonic, Denny's, or Dairy Queen that I can get to without driving for over an hour and over state lines.

I had Sonic while on vacation in Delaware last year. The layout was interesting as you couldn't get inside the restaurant building at all; you could only eat in your car or on a bench outside. I wonder if that was the exception or if other Sonics were like that. Anyway, the food was pretty good, but nothing that much different from other fast food spots. The drinks, on the other hand, as Michael Cole would say: "Oh, my." Whenever I get the chance to go there again, I am definitely ordering another watermelon slushie/smoothie. Or the blue raspberry lemonade, that was incredible as well.

I've had it in Las Vegas and Orlando, and I seriously considered making the six hour-drive to Meridian, ID when it was the closest one to my home. It was total chaos there today - they have an unfinished parking lot that they roped off into a queue that was overflowing. There was probably 100 people in the parking lot doing the walk-up thing. AND it backed up traffic on (usually already crowded) Meridian in both directions.

we get free stuff handed to us all the time here on the streets of NYC - not that you would want half of the stuff - last week it was cat food....

and there isn't a Sonic anywhere near where I live but I travel in the south on business with great regularity so that craving does get satisfied in between appointments or at the end of the day.

Rumor has it that we're supposed to get a Sonic in the DC area (as opposed to the few that are about a 90-120 min drive away, like in Gettysburg). I hope it's true.
