Memo Okur: 6 years, $50M with the Jazz. Steve Nash: 5 years, $65M with the Suns. Adonal Foyle: 5 years, $41.6M with the Warriors. Rafer Alston: 6 years, $29M with the Raps.
and today.... Hedo Turkoglu: 6 years, $39M with the Magic.
Is the NBA coming down with "Layden Syndrome" or something?
Wait a few days for Mark Blount to parlay half a good season in his career for 6 years/$38 million and we'll have the winner of the Pervis Ellison: Sucker Born Every Minute Award.
Any third world countries want Kevin Millar? I'll throw Ramiro Mendoza in the package just to give you a good deal.
I can understand most of those. Okur: The Jazz REALLY need inside help, so they're taking a bit of a gamble Nash: He'll be expected to EARN that $13 M a year, he could if he can be consistently as good as he can play. Foyle: What? Is he a starting centre now? Alston: Would be happy. Basically the same role as last year except Wade isn't there to take time from him. Again, needs to play more consistently near his top game to be worth it. Turkoglu: The Magic don't play defence, so he's perfect. Camby: That $50 mil is heavily incentive based I do believe. There's gotta be minimum games/boards etc clauses there. If there isn't the Nuggets are CRAZY.

ACtually, I still contend that the all time champion is the 5 years, $35-million Seattle gave Jim McIlvaine back in '96.
If the American administration changes in November, it will be catastrophic, because those Democrats do not understand a thing about foreign policy, and they lack the determination to make decisions the way [President] Bush made them in Iraq and elsewhere.- Sheik Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah, former Kuwaitit ambassador to the US
Actually, Alston at six years for only $29 million ain't bad... I can't imagine that eating up very much salary-cap space.
Not sure I'd sign him for six years, mind you, but the $29M is a relatively low number-- an average of only $4.83 million a year.
Heh... “only” $4.83 million a year. *sigh*...

Looks like he'll be with the c's for that amount RSN.
Hey, if Foyle is worth $6.5M and Okur is worth what Utah offered, Blount is worth the MLE amount.
Thing is, other teams were offering Blount around the same amount he signed for the C's for.
Look at it this way, at least Donald Sterling would agree with you on what players are worth.

Actually, to be fair, I lowballed Blount $3 million, as he ended up with $41 million. Until the end of the 2002-03 season, Blount was mainly the 13th man on a 12 man roster. He worked his way up to about the 10th spot at the end of '03, but at the time, did anyone think he was going to be making about $7 million per over 6 years? This is how teams end up in salary cap hell, they overpay mediocrity, get tied up in it, then complain that they can't go after good/very good/great players because they have no cap space or don't want to pay the luxury tax. The Celtics now have $18 million allocated to Mark Blount and Raef Lafrentz for the 2010 season. That means they will never be able to break out of salary cap purgatory.

Actually, the C's will be around the cap number for the next 2-3 years and should be under that after. Not great but not "salary cap purgatory".
It's not like the Knicks who will have around a $90M payroll each year for the next 3 years.

WRONG. They've agreed to the offer sheet and it WILL be offered to Okur. That the Jazz have added Okur, Boozer, adn Kris Humphries has Chad Ford so excited he's calling them a lock for the playoffs next year.

Originally posted by Chad Ford @ ESPN InsiderAs for the Jazz? The Boozer signing tops off a best-case scenario summer for the Jazz. The team needed bigs, and it added three very promising big guys -- Boozer, Mehmet Okur and rookie Kris Humphries. They needed a potential star in the backcourt and got one in rookie Kirk Snyder. The Jazz had to make these signings this summer. With Andrei Kirilenko looking for a huge extension this fall, this was Utah's last shot to spend a ton of money in free agency.
The Jazz have made some serious upgrades, and all of them look like perfect fits for Jerry Sloan's system. Barring injuries, I think Utah is a lock for the playoffs next season and could cause some damage in the West. In my mind, Kevin O'Connor has got to be the front-runner for executive of the year. Given the limitations in place in Utah, he's really made the most of what he can do.
That doesn't sound like he's leaving much chance of this to break down. Even though Okur is restricted the Pistons wwould have to give up Rasheed to match and letting him leave opens up a spot for Darko in '04-05.
