This helps the sox alot I think. While I am not that big on Foulke he was the best closer out there. This I think now puts the presure back on NY because the Sox as of now do have the better pen again.
How to Make the Wienerboard a Better Place, Chapter 1: Just because you can't spell "Heidenreich", doesn't make you clever. Not so sure I'd say we have the better pen yet... but we did answer one of our questions from last year, letting us move last season's answer (take your pick between Williamson and Kim) for someone else we could use. Not going to argue with this, but are we going to try closing by committee again?
I don't think we are going to have a Closer by committee again. We only had it last year because they did not have a real closer at the start of the year. Once we got Kim he was the closer for this team. I think they will trade Williamson (who I dont want to see go) and TRY to make Kim into their #5 guy.
I'm a happy fella if Williamson is the set-up man in the late 7th and 8th and Foulke comes in to shut the door. If they can some how turn BK into the fifth starter, and get 12 or 13 wins out of him, perhaps we can actually have a chance in the postseason next year.
I hope.

Let's look at the real bright side of this deal: The Headline writers in the Boston Herald should have a field day with a closer with this last name. Foulke-d Again during the first losing streak comes to mind. As for the move: It's an upgrade for Boston and it hurts Oakland, so its a double victory.
TRSF is right on the money with this one. Kim's a semi-effective starter, Bronson Arroyo might not be that good in the rotation, and this deal works out marvelously.

Sucks to be an A's fan today (wow, I'm getting tired of saying that this offseason, and it's only December 13). Hopefully we can turn another nobody into a worthwhile closer like happened with Jason Isringhausen a couple years back. I wonder how many days it'll be until Tejada bails and we're officially screwed...
The Toronto Maple Leafs are built for the playoffs. Of course they are. What Leafs fans don't realize, though, is "built for the playoffs" is just GM-speak for "short on skill, kinda slow, and can't score over an 80 game season".

Nah, you're screwed when Beane leaves. This past year was a perfect example of turning chickenshit (especially in the outfield, but certainly not pitching) into chicken salad. They've done this for a few years, so I can't call it overachieving.

Didn't they just resign Timlin to do this though? I loved Williamson during the playoffs, but I think Foulke might be the better option. The move I am defintely not sold on is Kim as a #5 starter. Nothing about the guy gives me confidence...
Here's the thing. If Kim bombs as a fifth starter, there are options. He was a closer with Arizona and the Sox (for a time), and may still command something in a trade to a team lacking in that department. Fifth starters, at this point in time, aren't necessarily that hard to find.
Trust me when I say, if the Yankees start making overtures to Greg Maddux, Theo will be on the phone because the Sox will not be allowed to be trumped this offseason.

20-25 easy? Check back in October when he goes 12-17 for the Braves. Paul Byrd is one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball. Go ahead, check it out.
