Jack Swagger always seemed legit as a wrestler (because he was) so this might be a good move, if he can throw and more importantly TAKE a punch.

Did he have concussion issues though?

If CM Punk lost his first MMA match so emphatically, Jack Swagger is going to get creamed.

But then, I know nothing of MMA, so maybe I'm full of crap.

I don't know much about it either, but Swagger at least has amateur wrestling experience at a Division I college, a background Punk lacked.

Not a fan of this move. Bellator have made massive strides in the last couple of years with the calibre of fighters they’ve brought in, and this strikes me as a poor knockoff of UFC signing Brock.

Plus you just KNOW that they’re going to set up a fight with Bobby Lashley and rasslin it up for the promotion.

@StevenPDunne - sporadic tweets about wrestling that are a waste of your time.

I don't know that I'd say you're full of crap, but I do declare that Punk got over due to what he could do with his mouth, Swagger not so much.

I think it's a (surprise) wait and see kind of thing. Brock left MMA because of a glass abdomen, Lashley still makes solid showings, and the current heavyweight scene in MMA is kind of blank. Good luck to Swagger, I'll root for him.

Swagger is much more of an athlete than Punk. From the newest Observer: "He was a state high school champion in wrestling and a football star. He was recruited for both sports by the University of Oklahoma. As a freshman, he was a second-string defensive tackle (...) He quit football as a sophomore to concentrate on wrestling, and as a junior, was introduced (to) Jim Ross, who told him to finish college and they’d look at bringing him in. He placed seventh at heavyweight in the 2006 NCAA tournament, which Cain Velasquez was also in and placed fourth."

Punk had no competitive athletic background at all, apart from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a low-level amateur - almost as a hobby.

Plus Bellator will probably try to give Swagger guys he can beat. UFC is a little more concerned with giving Punk more evenly matched opponents (which is tricky since Punk is, by far, the least capable fighter in UFC).

All of which is not to say that Swagger might not get creamed, though. He's 35 and that's awful late to be starting this, even with his skills and experience.

Does this mean he WON'T be in that title match in OVW this week? Poor guy, I feel sorry for him, but he ain't worth no $250 grand a year.
