I saw Eddie mention Charlie Metro in the closed "all-time Royals" thread, and wanted to bring this up. I also got a chance to meet Metro in the summer of 1995 for my Baseball History class. I had the closest guess to his career batting average, and he was nice enough to reward me with his tickets to any Rockies' game of my choosing.

Anyways, among the stories he told was an interesting job offer he received from the Reds. Apparently, the Reds offered him the managerial job, but he was already committed. The Reds then asked him if he had any recommendations. Metro recommended a guy named... Sparky Anderson.

Actually, if there's anything to this at all, I think A-Rod's days in baseball are done. The Yankees would have enough legal grounds to void his contract (which they would do in a heartbeat due to A-Rod's age and a clear lack of return on investment)
