Watching "A Cook's Tour" when Anthony is in L.A. and he meets Tony Shalhoub. A cooking nomad meets a Monk, and it only lasted for 10-15 seconds... but one of the best moments on Food Network since they kicked off Sissy Biggers from Ready Set Cook!

I love Tony Shalhoub. Finally with "Monk" the material is up to him, as when your previous career highlight is being Antonio Scarpacci you know the guy hasn't yet gotten the right script
And was I the only one who noticed that at one point USA Network seemed to run like 14 episodes of "Wings" per day?

Agreed - "Monk" is a splendiferous show. Hate the scheduling, love the show.
But my Food Network nirvana was a few weeks ago, with the "Very, Very Good Eats Marathon." The best show you're not watching, I guarantee. Unless you are. Alton tells you not only how to cook, but why you do it that way. What happens to the chemical structure of the food, stuff like that. I love it.

The teapot is absolutely correct. Alton Brown is the man. The marathon was of the greatness. I also just got his book. It does have lots of recipes in it, but mostly it's like the tv show where he tells you how and why something happens, not just a list of ingredients.
He's Rolie Polie Olie - and in his world of curves and curls, he's the swellest kid around.
Teapot and Pieman are both absolutely correct. I got Alton's book the day it came out -- a pure accident, I happened to be in Barnes and Noble at the SF section, hidden in the very back of the store lest those of us who actually read SF or Fantasy infect the Harlequin reading masses with some semblance of an ability to actually think, looking for something new by David Drake or David Weber when they started bringing out the AB books. Alton is indeed the man and I've yet to try one of his recipies that didn't turn out to be absolutely delicious.

The BDJ, or Bimbo Du Jour in Iron Chef terms, is Jacqui Malouf. And, yes, even though Bobby has a beautiful fiance/wife (as seen in the IC New York City special), I have a feeling that Bobby and Jacqui have stirred the stinky stew once (tm Dean).
Here's what rules on Food Network (in any order, really):
Anthony Bourdain (read both his books if you get the chance... and read them in publishing order)
Marc Summers (I'll post on why he should take over The Price is Right sometime)
Emeril Lagasse (His NBC show *SUCKED*, but his day job is fine)
Iron Chef (The show will make you think about gourmet when you're going to a simple Italian restaurant; you actually think about texture for once!)
Alton Brown (I do need to get that book -- thanks for the idea)
Still on topic... you all do know that Monk got a second 13-week order, yes?

Bobby and Jacqui were an item but not anymore - these are old repeats we are watching - it was a lot more evident with their first show where they were always cooking outside with just one B List Celebrity instead of Bobby's trendy NY kitchen and his funky friends - the show that they need to bring back is "Grillin' & Chillin'" with Bobby Flay and Jack McDavid - that was some funny but informative TV - got quite a few ideas from those shows
Also ate at Morimoto's in Philadelphia the other night - the food was awesome - the decor funky - the waiter had no airs or attitude and you could see Morimoto seriously working the kitchen - it was worth the 2 hour drive
Dunk, I agree most heartily with you about "Grillin' & Chillin'." It was the show that made me a Food Network junkie in the first place. I thought, "Now, this is what a cooking show should be." And damnit if Jack didn't make "dry rub" sound like the funniest words in English. PS - didn't Bobby with Jack seem infinitely less annoying than when Bobby's solo? Maybe it was the format, or maybe it's the pressure of being a "star," but I just find Flay a whole lot less likable than I did back then. JMHO...

Bobby Flay = whiny prick. His second match on Iron chef was so fixed.
It's all about Alton Brown and Iron Chef. Why doesn't Emeril face the Iron Chef challenge? Because Food Network would have *nothing* when he lost.

I so agree about Bobby. Of course, nothing could be worse than watching Sara and her secrets or her horrible attempts at a cooking talk show. As for Emeril and Iron Chef, I don't think it's quite fair to say that Food Network would have nothing when Emeril got his ass handed to him on a platter by any of the Iron Chefs and/or 98% of the challengers since Emeril does have some pretty talented stylists and sous-chefs. Or, which would be much better, we could get more Alton.
Seriously, does anyone actually think that Emeril can really cook, at least in comparison to other professional chefs? I'm reasonably certain he's a better cook than some of the people I've worked with but I'm even more certain that I've worked with chefs who are more talented but who don't have the marketing of Emeril.

I went to an Emeril Live taping and Emeril entertained - all the food was wheeled in and out to him - he never does much preparing other than a bam here and a bam there on his live show anyway - it's on the Essence of Emeril (both new & old episodes) that you see that he has some real culinary talent. I have eaten at Emeril's down in Nawlins too but liked Morimotos better.

That post must begin and end with Double Dare.
It must also mention Marc Summers talking about how he was laughing when getting hit in the face with pies on Double Dare, but that in reality, he was "dying on the inside".
Yeah -- for those that don't know, Marc Summers has/had problems with Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, which means if you link this with Monk's OCD, then we're still on-topic. :)

Well, I use a HP 501n, that I bought at Best Buy for about $500, it has everything to get online, and has never ran short of storage space for me, but then again, I go and clear out my disc space every night when I shut down, and I always keep my Spyware...
