as a slightly biased caps fan, it would seem to make more sense to spotlight the 2 time regining MVP this year and have flyers/rangers (heated rivals) next year.

And he'll still be a "good Cole Harbour kid" in 2010. He'll also be 22. Dion Phaneuf's exclusion makes sense, too, when you keep that in mind. Odds are Blake, Foote & Sakic won't be around then.
