Sorry, I imagine you don't know very much about the United States presidential election, being up in Commonwealth "Queen and Country" land and all, but in OUR system, the President can't just go out and change the Electoral College by himself. Which is what got him elected.

Who said anything abuot changing the Electoral College? These are problems within the system. Voter registration issues and large voter discrimination.
Of course, he can't just change it all by himself but as the incumbent, he carries more weight then anybody else in the country. If the President fully backed an investigation and a movement to correct these increasingly occurring voter problems, it would have an effect. But why would anyone want to change something that got them elected? That's the problem. I'm not just referring to Bush but anyone who is elected where there is a legitimate dispute and glaring errors. If Gore had won by the same means, he probably wouldn't have done anything either.
And don't worry our elections aren't perfect either. We just haven't had such major breakdown as Florida 2000 and what seems to be multiple states in 2004.

I really think there is a cause for concern because the problem is already out of the box, even if Election goes smoother than expected. With all the news stories of voter fraud and voter intimidation, you already have a report that says 2/3 of the American public will question the validity of this election if their guy doesn't win... 2000 was a major warning sign, the perception is out there that nothing was done to improve it & with the media focus this year it *seems* that it's gotten worse. The whole foundation of democracy is that you have to trust the electoral system win or lose, if not people view their leader as a fraud. Which I can't think of anything worse to have than that for a leader of a nation.

This sort of thing should make every US voter furious, the contempt both candidates seem to show to the democratic process.
