For the technically incompetant (i.e. me), how can you tell where I am, aside from the fact that I wrote Calgary as my hometown? Is it a matter of WHERE I log in? If I accessed the "W" from another country, would my flag show as that?
Questions questions, I know; I find this fascinating, and I'm curious as to how this works.
The gist I got from what he said was that every IP number has a WHOIS tag that basically tells where that server is located (and probably where the majority of the users are located, as well). Sometimes, servers in some countries have users from others, which is why the flags had to be changed (as the WHOIS tag gave the server's locale instead of the user's).
Or maybe I'm just talking outta my ass.
