The Sunday after Thanksgiving I'm running in the Seattle Marathon and it will be my first, and I don't doubt I'm gonna be scared as shit as the day approaches. I've set some goals I'd like to achieve while in the back of my mind all I wanna do is cross the finish line without soiling myself.
So, has anyone done one? Any advice or tips, or things I should worry about? I currently get about 40-45 miles a week in, and I'd like to peak at about 60-70 before tapering, maybe a bit more depending on how the body reacts. The longest road race I've ever done was a half marathon (1:31) a year or so back, and my longest run EVER was about 15 miles.
If anyone has stories to share, or advice to give, please feel free. I'm a sponge for knowledge. Thanks! | Promote this thread! | | samoflange

The training programs they recommend are very useful if you're not sure what to do there.
Once you get through one marathon, many more are sure to follow. Good luck!

I've already got my little training thing down, and know enough about proper footwear, recovery, etc. What I don't know is, for example, what I might want to expect at mile #22, or wonderful tales about people having to take a crap in the middle of the race. You know...the good stuff. The bad stuff. The ugly stuff. Straight from the horse's mouth.
Thanks though. | Zeruel

Their advice: tape your nipples. Seriously. A few miles of chafing can lead to some pretty nasty bleeding from them.
