Between the money already sunk into it in pre-production, and the number of industry people who had already made promises to distributors and theatre chains, that was not an option. X3 is not going to be as good as its predecessors, and might not be any good at all, but they were basically in a position where they had to make it, and with less resources than they really needed.

I don't think its much of an excuse. Sony had everyone locked up for Spider-man 3 before Spider-man 2 even came out. Fox sat on their asses way too long for X-men 3, probably so they could make garbage like Fantastic Four and now...Brett Ratner's X-men 3.

Oh, I'm not saying there weren't bad decisions made. I'm just also putting some of the blame on bad circumstances. Like I said, fair's fair.

...but then again, you may be totally surprized; X3 might be better than you expect. Sounds like you're giving it a death knell before it even is released, and that's not remotely fair.

Harry Potter is now working on it's third director, and yet nobody's commented that this one is going to be worse than that or whatever. I'll wait until X3 comes out before I comment.

Not that I'm one of those to completely trash X3 before even so much as seeing a trailer, but the reason people are worried about X3 and not "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" comes down to a lot more impressive resume from Potter's Mike Newell as compared to X3's Brett Ratner.

I'm still upset they replaced Alfonso Cuaron as director, since Chamber of Secrets was my favorite film in the series thus far.

And on the state of things: Sam Raimi's the head honcho of the Spider-Man movie ship. He knows exactly what he's doing, what he wants to be teased via the media, and when to reveal things. The fact that they managed to re-sign pretty much everybody in the first couple films speaks volumes about his commitment to making great films.

Plus, I LOVED how he managed to keep the Norman Osborn appearance in Spider-Man 2 a secret. It was a lovely surprise.

The first two Harry Potter movies were NOT that great. The third movie really elevated the movie franchise and gave us a more unique cinematic experience.

With X-men 3, we've lost the 2 major forces that made the movies a success, Bryan Singer and Tom DeSanto.

Also with the Harry Potter movies you have pretty much the same entire cast and crew. All the ORIGINAL writers and producers. With X-men 3 we have the writers of Elektra, Charlies' Angels, Catwoman, Fantastic Four, and XXX 2. That does not bode well for things to come.

Personally, I hated the third HP film. I hope this one is a lot better.

I believe you mean, Prisoner of Azkaban. Columbus did Chamber of Secrets. Also, I think Cuaron was given the option to do another movie but he turned it down or wanted to do another one later on.

Everyone EXCEPT Danny Elfman and John Dykstra .

I don't think it was that big of a secret. Even Wizard magazine reported that Willem Dafoe and Cliff Robertson were in the "cast" of the movie before it came out. More like it was a cool surprise.

I read it was because Curon didnt really like working on huge sets, with large casts and budgets or whatever. He worked primarily on smaller movies.

Or am I mistaking him with someone else?

I don't think it's the case of the director, but more the case that the X-Films have been so terribly convoluted and twisted that swtiching a critical element at this point, like a new director, could send the whole franchise down the toilet.

I remember reading about the X-Men movie idea in my FOX Kids Club magazine way back in 1992 and I was SO, SO, SO disappointed with the first 2. They really could have made it better and more comic book friendly if they had made small references here and there about the teams history instead of giving everyone a whole origin deal...

How I would have liked it:
X1: Prof. had the original students, Ice (still in minor role), Cyke, and Jean stayed to tend to the school. Rogue/Mystique deal touched on. Magneto isn't made to look like a weak mutant. Rogue comes to the Prof. at the end because she sees his way as better.

X2: Government initiated the Sentinel program after the problems with Magneto in the first movie. Sentinels go nuts and so then all the mutants have to come together to fight them.

X3: Kinda like the X-Men Evolution ending where you had Apocalypse and you see glimpses of the future of some crap.

Just my take.

Mmmmm...now that is a tasty burger!
