Henry Cavill in full costume as Superman. Errgh. I never thought Superman would have Vince McMahon's 1980s pompadour.

I kinda of like it. The suit looks good and I have seen Cavill with the right hair in other pictures, so we should be good. More action happening in that one photo then 85% of Superman Returns.

I can't actually see the underwear, but I agree that the classic look is best. I'm not quite sold on the glossy, textured look of the suit, but I'm surprisingly happy with the hair.

Cavill looks like the most jacked Superman we've ever seen in a movie or TV show. Check out the four lane highways on those pythons, brother!

It's hard to say whether that's the tone of the movie, but they probably should have used a better picture. This picture gives the impression that the movie's going to be something dark and gritty, which Superman is most definitely not. I could be wrong, though.

That hair has to go. Seriously. I am not wrong on that one.

Anything has to be better then the last Superman movie or Superman 3 with Richard Pryor.

I don't mind a dark superman but I think it only works if the music (like first Keaton batman) goes with it.

conspiracy theorists will point to some of these changes as potentially done because of fear of DC losing the Siegel/Shuster lawsuit.

I like it; flights, tights, and bending steel. I do hope that it's exploring what happens when you do piss Superman off rather than the 'gosh gee golly' of the Donner Superman, which was a tone they tried to emulate each time in following film, including Superman Returns. Batman Begins changed the tone of a Batman film with great success, I hope they can manage the same with Superman.

Also, Ed McGuinness had a knack for drawing Superman with a 'pompadour' style to help emphasize the 'faster than a speeding bullet' aspect. Considering it's what looks like a vault door being busted down...

Seems like a whole lot of Academy Award winners and nominated actors in this film. That usually makes me a little nervous.

Batman's about a kid who sees his parents murdered in front of his eyes, it's supposed to be dark and BB was just returning to the characters real roots. Superman is bright and friendly and supergood.

Don't like that S, it looks like the Mortal Kombat dragon.

At least they got rid of the "S" buckle. I thought that was overkill, at best. I'm curious to see the back of the cape.

I like it and I liked it even more after reading this:

As a huge Superman fanboy I'm excited and nervous for this. Hoping for the best as always.

True, Batman is inherently darker, but the "Family Friendly", George Clooney playing Batman as gay, over the top and overused soundtrack and overall feel of Batman and Robin is completely different than the more mature, 'if it were real this is how it'd go down', 'hey there's a lot of human frailty now' feel of Batman Begins.

Superman is altruistic, but the only qualities the movies ever showcased that Superman had any humanity or emotion was his love for Lois, which he was able to drop like a bad habit with a wink and a nod at the end of Superman II and ultimately dominated the entirety of Superman Returns.

I'm a huge Superman mark, but I'll wait til I see more than one photo to really develop an opinion. Gut feeling isn't impressed with what I saw though.

Reeves' Superman worked because he didn't have to look like Conan the Barbarian to be strong. His strength came from being an alien and therefore he could be a baby and still lift a car without much effort. It's the same reason Kevin Sorbo worked so well as Hercules for years. If the character is defined by their build, then there's nothing for the audience to relate to. Reeves and Sorbo each showed caring and compassion more than anything else. Superman is supposed to be a symbol of what we could be, not a bodybuilder to inspire kids to go to the gym and hit the weights.

I do hope though, that the bar is set higher than "hey, as long as it's not Batman and Robin, it's a good movie."

Why? Care to elaborate? Loading up on Oscar winners/nominees worked for Iron Man and Dark Knight.

Here is a good example, this thread: http://the-w.com/t/43951

Sometimes a movie can have an award winning cast and still end up a steaming pile of shit.

True, it can happen. But like many on that thread, I actually like some of the movies (Prestige)that are being blasted. I also agree that some are stinkers (Avengers). But we could list many examples of movies with Oscar level casts that ended up being great movies. It just doesn't seem like a reason to shudder when a great cast is announced, IMO.
