As if Tim McCarver wasnt bad enough.....

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/07/13/foxsports_ruse_web/

Fox Sports and Chevy teamed yesterday to deceive millions of people during the Major League Baseball All-Star game. They did such a good job of it that many of you viewing probably didn't even notice.

As Fox came back from a commercial break in the bottom half of the third inning, many viewers caught sight of a very long, flashy banner draped over an equally ostentatious advertisement picturing a yellow Corvette. The banner read HHRYA.com with the letters done in pseudo Asian design - clearly the work of professionals. However, the Fox Sports broadcasters Joe Buck and Tim McCarver played off the ad like it was the work of a goofy sports fan, dangling his banner in the hopes of securing a moment of TV glory.

Wow, huge news!

I'm never going to watch FOX again!

How dare they...do something...that I'm not sure what they did. But I'll bitch about the sanctity of sports on television anyway!

Who knew Roy Oswalt is baseball's best pitcher or Tim McCarver is a Journalist?

Plus, it was kinda obvious to anybody watching (who was me) that it was a lame attempt at viral marketing. Really, this shouldn't be so unexpected - with the Moonves directive to increase blatant in-show product placement on CBS shows, it's clear that ALL the networks are busy finding ways to make you watch ads, even when you're skipping out on the commercials.

It could have been much worse: FOX could have announced Joe Morgan was joining the broadcast team with Buck and McCarver during the LCS and World Series in order to provide the worst broadcasting team in the recorded history of television.

I think you are a sick, sick man. It's bad enough that it seems everytime I watch a Giants game on ESPN I have to deal with Morgan, who makes me yearn for Kuiper and Krukow.

Joe Morgan is Vin freakin' Scully compared to Buck and McCarver. They belong to the Maguire/Patrick/Theismann/Wadkins/Azinger/every announcer the Blue Jays have had since Dan Shulman pantheon of crappy sports announcers.

"You can look the other way once, and it's no big deal, except it makes it easier for you to compromise the next time, and pretty soon that's all your doing; compromising, because that's the way you think things are done. You know those guys I busted? You think they were the bad guys? Because they weren't, they weren't bad guys, they were just like you and me. Except they compromised... Once." -- Jack Bauer

He gave up the fan interference homer by Jeter in '96 too... While you could say the Mets atrocious D can explain some of his bad days, he's really only a great closer against bad teams. Looks like Hasegawa is the closer until Sasaki is ready.
