This is usually the sort of thing people like to speculate about here.
I've never read the Batman comics, so I know nothing of Bane's story. I just read the Wikipedia page about him, and there's a lot there. I wonder how much of the same story Nolan will tell. Will he break Batman's back? Figure out Batman's identity? Break down the walls of Arkane Asylum? Join forces for a time with Batman?
I'm sure whatever Nolan comes up with will be great, I wish this movie weren't a year away.
If it was anyone else besides Tom Hardy, I would so glorified henchmen. Bane is interesting character when he first debuted then slowly began to deteriorate into random big dude. I guess there is a video clip somewhere of this and there is chanting in the background either from the League of Shadows or the Mexican prison, he is at. I am not a big fan of the mask, but goddamn, his back is fucking huge.
Nolan already did an Arkham breakout in 'Batman Begins,' so I doubt that angle will come up again. But yeah, there's plenty to be mined from Bane's backstory and Hardy is sure to be awesome in this role.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

Gail Simone has been doing great work with the Bane character in Secret Six.
First, I am NOT a fan of using Bane as a villain in Nolan's movieverse. I think there are other characters I'd rather see his take on.
BUT...
If you are gonna do it, Tom Hardy is an interesting choice. If he can channel some of what he did in Bronson, it could be as classic as Ledger's Joker.
I wasn't really paying attention but its hard not to notice "THE SHAT" written across my TV screen. I agree that it could go either way but I'll give it a look. Denny Crane.
