Local WalMart has it for $20.

I'll say this -- it's different, in both good and bad ways. Plus, there's no managing mode that I see that the Japanese original had.
But, it's $20... and Taker is lifelike -- he doesn't sell anything in the game IMO. ;P

Since I have Final Fire Pro, I don't know if I want to bother getting the new US version.

Even if it's $20.

I've got Final Fire Pro too, but Fire Pro 2 is worth it for the new Fire Pro 2 exclusive wrestlers like Brock Lesnar, the Hardyz, Lita, and Edge. Not to mention the awesome Wrestler List mode!

"This man defies gravity" -Rey Mysterio

"This executioner won't stop running roughshod any time soon" -Undertaker

"Beautiful wrestler popular for his sharp and speedy movement and long hair" -Edge

"His character is questionable, but no one questions his strength" -Nash

"His conduct often causes problems" -Hall

GBA.

A Gamecube version is rumored to be coming to the US, but that's sometime down the road.

A PS2 version is _also_ still in the works... for Japan. Whether BAM! has (or will obtain) the rights to bring that version to the US is unknown to me, and that game's been in development for quite some time now.

Right now, the best US-console option is to pick up a Dreamcast (used for around $50), a boot disc (free off the net, or commercial versions exist), a couple of memory cards (which are cheap now) and Fire Pro D (consult your favorite importer, such as NCSX, Tronix or The Rage). Lotsa Japanese, but plenty of FAQs exist, and the US wrestlers look just like their real-life counterparts.

Personally, if I only had 1 game to get on the DC, I'd get Giant Gram 2000 instead of Fire Pro.

Apples and oranges. GG2K is a definite step up from the first one, and the History Mode is nifty, but it's still a lot more arcade-y than the Fire Pro series. The create-a-wrestler mode is VERY different (not bad, just different), and some may tire of its the build-up-move-X-to-get-move-Y system if they just want to create some custom guys quickly.

Plus, it's primarily All Japan-centric (for obvious reasons). Which is great if you love All Japan... and I do... but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

Duly noted.

I'm a little put off by Fire Pro's 2D nature. Not enough to NOT play mind you, it just make me feel like I'm playing a game from 6 or 7 years ago.

I love the classic characters in Giant Gram and I think the create-a-wrester mode is supreme over everything else I've ever played, where you have to "learn" moves in order to use them.

Off the games from a couple years ago, I'd rank them this way:

GG2K
Fire Pro
NJPW 4

I also, a few years ago, really liked the NJPW game for the N64.
