Is the picture just supposed to illustrate the concept of examining your food closely?

I saw this story/photo earlier. I kept thinking there was some sort of error in using that photo, or maybe the box isnt supposed to be there?

When I read the line about putting it in her mouth I said OH MY GOD outloud here at work....something I never do.
