Marion Jones finally got busted in an official drug test. I know I harp on this stuff a lot, but I'm happy about this. She's been a lot like Bonds, in that she's acted so offended that anyone would suggest she took roids even when there was a ton of evidence against her. I can only imagine the excuses she'll come up with for this.

I'm as tired as the next guy with the steroid stories, but this is one that helps. If they catch the 50th best person, no one cares. But when it's a multiple medal winner who was the face of her sport, it'll hopefully make others think twice about cheating.

Track and Field has quickly become more of a joke than boxing. Impressive.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

This may end up being much ado about nothing. EPO is notorious for showing up in false positives, and as her trainer mentioned, it really wouldn't have made much sense for her to take it since it would really only help an endurance runner, which Marion isn't.

Let's see what happens with the B sample.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Right, yet another lame excuse from a trainer. It didn't make any sense for Floyd Landis to take what he did either in terms of competitive advantage, but he did it. Marion has been a cheat for a very long time, and she needs to go down hard on this one. Here's hoping the B sample confirms it and she's done.

I fully realise that because you read "Game of Shadows," you are an expert, but your constant evangelizing - and thread after thread - ain't exactly winning me over.

I never claimed to be an expert, I'm merely expressing my opinion. In what way does it look like I was trying to win anyone over there? I'm ticked about the whole thing and felt like venting, expecially after we got yet another excuss from a trainer instead of someone standing up and taking their punishment(which by the way Justin Gatlin did and I commend him for it). Having read Game of Shadows doesn't make me feel smarter than anyone, it merely got me upset about the whole thing and more into the issue. Not really that big a deal, just posting something I find interesting. It's no different than people who feel really strongly on political issues here who post multiple times in every single political thread, basically restating their already known opinion, which happens pretty much daily.

I think you just don't have any interest in the subject, but why poopoo someone who does? If it's front page news to major outlets, then I figure it's good enough to post as a story here. Problem is no one else seems to care, which is fine but may also say something about why steroids are so prevelant in sports today, so yeah I'll just give it a rest and annoy my real life friends on this particular issue from now on instead. Happy?

Can you tell me when something crosses over from "cause" to "excuse," and how you know this case crossed that line?

Oh yeah, I forgot, Barry Bonds used steroids.

And the Marion Jones story may be front-page news, but you know what else is? The follow up with her trainer's attempt at an explanation (and it doesn't run under the headline "lying cheating bitch makes excuses"). While I also am skeptical, I don't let it get me as angry as you seem to because a) at the end of the day, I really don't give a damn about Marion Jones and b) even if I did, I think every athlete still deserves their situation to be taken case by case. You, on the other hand, seem like you could take a gun to her head given the opportunity.

P.S. - I don't think there have been "daily" politics posts on anything like a regular basis in like two years.

Ok, I'll try to keep emotion out of this and give you what we know as facts, only because I was asked directly. Hopefully it won't bring down the wrath of CRZ again.

Two months before the Olympic trials in I think 92 she skipped a drug test. She was in high school at the time, nothing big but a sign of things to come. Her coach is known to have provided many athletes with steroids, by those athletes admissions, and evidence provided in the grand jury investigation. Her previous husband, C.J. Hunter testified under oath that he saw her injecting steroids into her stomach and that her coach was getting her EPO from Mexico, the same drug she has tested positive for here. Later she began using Conte and BALCO drugs, which of course were not detectable by normal methods. Conte did a live interview saying he gave her five different steroids, and the evidence collected included calenders of her drug usage and checks she had written to Conte for thousands of dollars along with shipments to her before the Olympics. The father of her child, Montgomery, is also known to have used. After the BALCO scandal broke and a lot of track people were implicated, she began to suck. Horribly, along with many other former great track stars. Now this summer she has seen a resurgance, and boom positive test for EPO.

So basically everyone around her did steroids, and many, many people have said they know she did too, some of them before a grand jury, not to mention the trail of paper and now positive drug test. You can continue to give her the benefit of the doubt, but in my mind that time has come and gone.
