According to Cageside Seats - and I have no idea what their sources are, but they're usually pretty accurate as a collator of the dirtsheet stuff - the current plan is for Bryan Vs. HHH, and for Bryan to lose that match.

What. The. Fuuuuuck.

There is trolling the internet fan and there is becoming the new Vince Russo. Does anyone actually think facing HHH at Wrestlemania is a big deal besides HHH?

I think Bryan facing and BEATING HHH at WrestleMania would be a huge deal for him. I think him losing that match at WrestleMania would at first glance be WWE's equivalent of the Fingerpoke of Doom. There's no follow-up to that decision that would flush away the awfulness of having the 45 year-old booker and noted egocentrist pinning the hottest babyface in the company at the company's biggest-ever show.

It would also guarantee a crowd revolt and kill the rest of the show. I can buy a theory that WWE could tell longer stories going forward since most people who buy WrestleMania will be locked in for the next 5 PPVs, and you get more mileage out of a HHH/Bryan feud if Bryan doesn't beat him the first time they meet, but they've been too concerned about fans turning on shows since Rumble to walk right into it like that.

Here's that post; I checked today's Observer to see if it was in there with more context, but don't see any reference to that. There is a another discussion of Punk, where it's suggested he was going to lose (as mentioned in that article) and that it would've actually made sense for him to do so if he was finishing up in July. Bryan's not going anywhere so that reasoning doesn't work.

I saw the original thing on this. It's a game of telephone. Mike Johnson said something like, "the wrestlers I talked to were disappointed to get to Raw and see the same plans in place after hearing about possible changes in direction all weekend. someone said, 'if Bryan is wrestling HHH, do you really think he's going over?'" Voila, grave Daniel Bryan concern newspiece.

For once, I'd wish that Triple H's ego was really as big as all the world thinks it is, and he would book Daniel Bryan winning the championship at Elimination Chamber, just so he, the mighty Triple H, could face Daniel Bryan for the championship at Wrestlemania XXX and close the show - one more time. And just to show the world, what a true team player and company man he is, he would do the right thing, and lay down for D-Bryan at the biggest stage of all.

No, then its all about HHH. Fuck him, get off the card. He can sit in the back and I don't know...be a proper booker.

Bookers have always put the belt on themselves. Or, in the case of guys like Gary Hart or Ken Mantell, on whoever they managed. That's why the Von Erichs won so many titles in World Class, Verne Gagne won so many in AWA, why "friend of Ole Anderson Ric Flair won so many in Georgia Championship, and why HHH has won so many belts too - he is pals with the booker.

Why would it surprise anyone that the booker would put the belt on himself if that was what was needed for the storyline? I mean you guys are BEGGING to see Bryan win, the evil HHH is keeping him down. Why not keep that going for awhile?

While all of what you said is true, in WWE there's a well laid-out structure to how they plot out their calendar and stories. And really, we've been in a Daniel Bryan grind since last summer, regardless of whether it's HHH or Randy Orton or Batista or whoever, everything builds to a fever pitch at WrestleMania.

Every time WrestleMania has hit a 10-year mark so far, they've geared the event towards putting a new(ish) world champion over. At 10, it was Bret Hart finally free of Hulk Hogan's shadow, reclaiming the WWF Title and launching the New Generation. At 20, it was Eddie and Benoit (mostly Benoit) ushering in an even younger generation. It's been a great, successful story every time that it's just baffling that at 30, we're getting HHH's Buddy Batista's crowning moment.

Any of these proposed scenarios here, Orton, Batista, HHH, are all the sort of WCW-level bad booking decisions that turned people off for years.

I honestly would have no problem with a Triple H reign if he was going to drop the belt at WrestleMania. In fact, I would have preferred that to what we've seen out of Orton as of late. Orton isn't clicking as the heel, mostly because they can't seem to make up their minds about his allegiance to HHH/Stephanie which removes a lot of the teeth. HHH stealing "his" belt back from Orton would have been a perfect setup for Bryan to beat him.

And, really, putting the belt on Bryan will keep this feud fresh. Faces draw as champions, especially with the way WWE has always booked them. They put it on Austin numerous times, too, back in his time only to have the Corporation screw him out of it. Even if Bryan has a one-month reign, as long as he won the Big One at WrestleMania, that's all the fans really want to see.

TNA, which repeatedly put the title on co-founder Jeff Jarret, and WWE, which put both the WWE and ECW titles on owner Vince McMahon.

Total fantasy booking, but what if Bryan wins the title at Elimination Chamber and HHH, not confident enough that Batista can take the title from Bryan, makes it a 4 way between Bryan, Orton, Batista & HHH. I think Bryan beating Evolution would be a fitting end to the storyline.

I think the context in those cases is different, though. Even with TNA, they still build to Bound for Glory (their WrestleMania) and at that event, Jarrett would drop the title to put the face over for the benefit of the company. That's different than, say, when Verne Gagne would hold the AWA World Title for numerous prolonged runs because he couldn't trust anyone else to hold the title. Verne was also mega-popular in his region and even nationwide, and was able to justify holding it (as were the Von Erichs).

But it worked, because Verne was a babyface. It doesn't work quite so well when the person doing it is a heel who repeatedly has his boots stepping on the babyfaces. It just doesn't make for an enjoyable show.

And then when Vince held the WWF and ECW Titles, it was to get another talent over (HHH and Bobby Lashley respectively) with a short run.

Which is why I think it would be okay if HHH got a short title run to put Bryan over in this hypothetical match that won't happen, because then you have a strong heel that's been built up and is a legitimate threat and a babyface who's been screwed and ready to avenge it.

The idea, overall, is to tell the story that needs to be told and get someone mega-popular over. It really did work 10 years ago well when HHH did it for Benoit. I mean, aside from what happened with Benoit afterwards.

I grew up watching AWA, and for the life of me, I can't ever remember thinking, "Why is Verne STILL champion?" Back then, it worked. Verne was from Minnesota, and we Minnesotans wanted our hometown boy to take down Mr. California, Nick Bockwinkle, pompous mf'er. Those two were the perfect opponents, and when he got paired with Heenan, HOOO BOY, did it take it to the next level.

Right now, the WWE is going to gauge crowd reactions and business over the next few weeks before making any major final decisions to the show.

So if the upcoming Chicago crowd demands Punk for four hours, do they throw money at him? Put him in the main event at Mania?

A nice turn to getting Bryan to Wrestlemania in the title match might be if he is the one taken out before the chamber match, leading (insert authority figure here) to have no choice but to oblige his title match contract and put him in the Main Event, with the requisite jumping through hoops between then EC and Mania to help build it up. A qualifying match against Kane, Gauntlet against The Shield and/or Wyatts etc.

And if I may layer some more fantasy booking on top of that, the man who takes him out and wins the chamber could be represented by Paul Heyman, who cuts his usually great promo before the chamber as an advocate, with plenty of "my client" verbiage, only for the twist to be that we get a returning and placated CM Punk instead of the expected Lesnar.

This accomplishes quite a few things. Punk gets his Wrestlemania main event. Punk is back with Heyman, so his new presumably tweener heat will be heightened for taking out Bryan. It has an inbuilt narrative of Daniel Bryan swooping in and stealing Punk's place as the beloved underdog, so Punk took his place in the chamber. It doesn't cause drastic reshuffling of Batista, since he can merely be HHH's chosen one in the lead up and match, complete with douche attitude that he excels at. Randy can be included or not, since an elimination four-way has precedent and would have a balance of heel/face/tweener with this assortment of talent. It would have the necessary levels of crowd energy that a WM main event should have, thanks to Bryan and Punk.

It also lets the Shield have their potential triple threat match without doubling up.

For DB, a match with Trips would feel like one of those "imaginary brass rings" that... er... *some guy* mentioned.

Besides, i'm not sure DB needs to face Trips to solidify his status as a main event guy, since most already see him as a A+ player & want to see him take that next step and win the title.

Besides, Beating Trips just doesn't carry the same level of pride or weight that it did back in 2002.
