According to a man named Mark who called in from the Airport to 96Rock, the F-18s were taking off in tandem, but the second pilot decided to show off and hit his afterburners. He then lost control, bounced a couple times and then ejected.
Last I heard the RDU Airport was closed for the afternoon. No idea when flights will start again.
In my opinion, when it comes to the death penalty, we should always err on the side of not killing someone. Of course, I say this as someone opposed to the death penalty in all cases, but I still think this was the right call.
