I was just thinking the same thing this weekend about the draft. The Quarterback, Linebacker, Defensive End, and Safety crop seem pretty weak this year compared to previous years. I believe that because the NFL Draft has been built into such an event everyone is hesitant to mention the fact that this years crop is not as talented as the past few years.

Don't be too concerned about Vonnie being gone. Afterall, he's generally injured, so we're always replacing him, anyway. And, how many sacks did he have last year? 6 or so? 5 of those came in one game.

Yes this is a mediocre draft, but I think that makes it more interesting as teams will make more moves to secure the player they covet, and move down trying to gain more picks to have a better chance at getting a contributor.

Whatever- you say no way the Browns would draft a WR, what do you feel they will do, Dline or Oline again, Looking back I was most likely wrong with the pick of Bryant Johnson, but when the draft actually unfolds most of my picks will be wrong. This was just to start a discussion. So that would make Johnson available to the Titans, and also the fact that I screwed up and left Boss Bailey out was a major error, he will be a top 20 pick.

With my team not drafting till the end of the round Im just as interested in what will happen in the first 6 hours (god thats ridiculous) of the draft, thats why Im searching out the opinions of fans of the lesser teams, and for now the Buc too, I hate the Bucs. (Oh yeah I hate the Donks, Dolts, Chefs, Bills everyone else the Raiders play but they didn't embarrass the Raiders in the Super Bowl.)

I think you got Steinbach to low, it seems a lot of people are predicting him to be top 12. YOu also have Dallas Clark too high, he will be an early second round pick, but probably not in the first round. Plus I see the rams going with O-line or D-line over cornerback, and I hear if the bears dont go with Leftwich, they will definitely go with D-line.

You bring up some good points but here is my thinking:
Steinbach being a guard most likely won't go in the top ten, that is usualy reserved for tackles since lineman aren't that sexy (although my wife would disagree). So looking at team needs and who was available I thought hit fit perfectly in N.O. since their line is a mess.

Dallas Clark should be a solid over the middle receiver for a team like the aints where Brooks could use that kind of target, I know they just signed a TE, name excapes me right now, but he is over 30 and unless your the Raiders that doesn't fill a team with confidance.

I picked Trufant with the Rams pick since I had him slipping and he would fill a need their and I don't think that he should get out of the top 10. Boss Bailly would be my second choice here. I think the Rams are set at Oline assuming they resign Pace.

And for the Bears, looking at it now I think I would switch theirs and the cowboys picks. but I am also expecting a trade here so this may be the way they go off the board, just not to these teams.

And as a side note on the Jeff Faine discussion I have been having with Iceman, Faine reported in his draft diary only one team brought him in for a personal interview, that team, The Titans.

I read that in the paper a few weeks ago and I was excited by it because we need a Center but I'm just saying that if,at #28, we view someone as being better or Faine is gone,we have Ackerman to be Center.

But if we do draft Faine, I'll probably be the first to buy his jersey. :)

I think Steinbach will go higher because he is one of the best O-linemen and the country, and he can play more then 1 position (he has played both guard and tackle). Clark wont go 1st round (unless he is one of the last two or three picks) because though he can catch he is a little small and his blocking ability is in question. The rams o-line is anything but solid as all they really have is Pace and turley, they lost everyone else, and Pace may not play this year because he is greedy.

The Bears should either go with Willis McGahee (who will be great in a year) or with Terrance at CB. They desperately need a good runner, and it will have to be a decently fast and agile one if they want to center an offense around Kordell (and I'm really holding my anger in check at this signing). Once Willis heals, he will be all that and more

However, one of their biggest problems the past several years was against the pass. Of course, if they hadn't gotten rid of Parish like complete morons, things might be different. But still, a lock down CB would be golden opposite RW.

Both Steinbach and Clarks pick will depend on whom is picking, their needs and what is left that fills them, Teams usually don't want to spend top ten money on a guard, but if they think Steinbach can play tackle in their system then you could be right, which team do you see him fitting?

The Rams Oline may be overhauled but It could be in the top 3rd in the league assuming they resign Pace. The line up Right to left of:
Turley, Timmerman, Wohlabaugh, McCullumn, Pace
should be able to to give the QB plenty of time, and Turley brings the attitude that should open up larger holes for Marshall.

messenoir: Im sorry but in no way should the Bears take MGahee with the 4th pick. Way too much risk to pay that kind of price for. Now if he is available in the second round at their slot than OK. A top 10 pick, unless a QB, needs to start from day one.
