In light of Steve Austin walking away from WWE, the Undertaker and Triple H have made it clear that they are willing to step up and fill the positions of both Austin and the Rock.

Source: 1wrestling.com

Fucking jackals. You see now why the WWF is going to hell? "Oh, how gallant of them to be *willing* to *step up to the plate*" Whatever. This isn't about saving the WWF, this is about taking those two spots, two spots that neither of them can fill. Neither of them draw, neither of them can work like Austin and Rock, and at least Rock was willing to lay down for people. If this week's programming is what the HHH/Undertaker era is gonna be like, we're in for a bumpy ride. They wasted 35 minutes on SD! just so Hunter could destroy inanimate objects and grunt like a gorilla. At least when Austin did it, he was entertaining. Now, I don't pray for the day Austin comes back, because I think his days on top are over, but I'd rather have just about anybody "step up" other than Red Man and Captain Caveman.

I am really trying to be positive about things...but I just see HHH, UT, and HBK talking to VKM telling him they can save the company and he just eating it up. This is going to be a crappy summer. Damn, when is that NWA PPV?

Well, the Rock will be coming back, but if you hate the Rock I guess that doesn't help.

The Rock has already signed up for another movie. He won't be back long.

You know, I don't think the HHH/Taker match was "SHITTY" really. I thought it was the best match those two could have really. But that was the old HHH, the HHH who didn't weigh a metric ton and move like Ben Grimm. You know, I think Comic Book Guy said it best in relation to this situation...

Um, geez guys, aren't we overreacting somewhat? I mean, first off this "HOT NEWZ" came from Mr. 1bullshit himself. Second of all, what's the big deal if they did turn around and say "If you need us, we think we can step up and help out". Who knows what was said? Just don't be so fucking quick to jump to conclusions about two lines of text posted by a lying asshole with a vendetta against the fed.

Let's assume the austin thing is not a work, and I believe right now it isn't..

Why did CRZ go off like that in his report? Do people like Austin THAT much?! I like the guy, no question, but he hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire the last 5 months or so. If the choice was to keep him on TV and have him on the midcard squashing guys while wrestling much worse than he did 9 months ago, I'd rather him be off the show entirely.

And as for people defending the WWF and browbeating Austin for walking out.. Hey, he hated the writing (as most of us do), he was on the middle of the show and was miserable, apparently refusing to put people over. While Triple H, who is 'management' (allegedly), has a stranglehold on the top spot even though he's much less entertaining (IMO). I don't blame Austin for wanting to leave, the show sucks and his value is in danger of being diminished. I think giving away Austin/Brock NOW on free TV is ludicrous. Give Brock time to work his way up the card.. The fans anticipation as to 'who can stop Brock' would grow over time.. Give people time to WANT to see it before you hand it out, don't just puke it up now in absolute desperation.

I don't agree with the WAY Austin left, but I am willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. It would have been nice for him to stick around at least to put somebody over, but hey, Austin has given me years of free entertainment and if he wants to leave, let him. If he were to stick around but make it clear he was leaving when his contract was up, my guess is he'd be jobbed out like a maa fucka. They'd destroy his value, his ability to make money for whatever promotion he joined after WWE (not mention himself).

I think this might end up being good for the industry. I don't know much of anything about how their contracts are structured, but man would it be cool for Austin to show up at an NWA or MLW show in 6 months. Then there would be some competition, and maybe the WWE show would be able to creatively dig themselves out of the gutter. Or maybe the show Austin ended up on would be worth watching, because right now even with Austin WWE is painful, even embarassing to watch.

How about the entire last 6 months of WWF programming? The HHH/UT era began a long time ago. Austin & Rock's absence is only a side-effect of it.

There's nothing wrong with guys willing to "step up to the plate" and fill the void or whatever, but you're right. These two obviously can't do it and unless UT & HHH are used to put someone else over (which they don't have a good track record of doing), they're going to bring down what's left.

And really, when was the last time Rock or Austin was up at the plate? Rock's been gone a while now. I can't remember last time Austin was, except right after his heel days of last year ended (and the "What?" era began, unfortunately.) He's been phoning it in since then.

Um, you guys have noticed that the Undertaker has done nothing but make young guys look good for about the last four months now, right? Or is this like the "Hulkamania Isn't Over" I-Don't-Want-It-To-Be-The-Truth-So-It-Isn't thing...
