The way technology is going it seems like the ability to record a program and watch it 15 minutes later, while skipping the ads will soon be fairly standard.

What will happen then, do you think? Will it be the end of TV ads? Will everything be pay per view?

It's all wrestling. You don't understand it, you don't like it. Why should you? Wrestling is for everybody, you included, but not exclusively. It may not be your wrestling but it's wrestling to somebody somewhere.

Well considering ad skipping options were removed from dvr's, I don't think so. Sure you can hit fast forward, but ReplayTV used to have a setting that would auto skip all commercials for you. They've been sued a few times and finally removed it. That's why no one else has put it in. The technology is there, but the advertisers are fighting it.

TiVo has the 30-second skip buried in the software as an easter egg. It's a beautiful thing.

The ReplayTV feature worked in a similar way, which was the problem. With fast-forwarding, you at least see the ad. I believe TiVo is going to start showing static ads while you're fast forwarding in the near future, which I don't really have a problem with.

As far as television ads go, I don't think they're going anywhere. If anything, it will just force the advertisers and their agencies to come up with more effective, entertaining advertising. Besides, the number of installed DVRs in this country has got to be pretty small. Even if it gets to the installed base that VCRs currently own, you're talking about a good while before it actually gets there.

I admittedly don't mind advertising. It's a good opportunity to get up during a game or show to grab more soda or whatever else.

Also, I've found that some DVDs I've received as promotional tie-ins (i.e. KFC) won't allow for FFing through the beginning ads. Interesting.

If FFing through commercials ever becomes THAT common, it will just lead to more ads during the actual programs. You'd see a return to named sponsors for programs, which is already happening a little bit, and onscreen ad bugs. Heck, look at all the during-the-show ads already present in sports programming, and in WWE programming for that matter.

Ooh, maybe they could starting making ads that only make sense when you are fast forwarding... like a flip-book or something.

NOTE: The above post makes no sense. We apologize for the inconvenience.
