Jim Fassel's out as the Giants head coach after the season ends.
I bet Mr. Davis would be happy to bring him back to Oakland. 1/2 ;-)
Co-owners Wellington Mara and Bob Tisch gave him the OK, provided Fassel assure them there was no way the team would quit on him. He did.
I don't BELIEVE him. Let's watch the line on those games and see if anybody else does... I'm told the line WAS Dallas by 10 1/2, already...hard to go down from there?
I think it's obvious the team has already quit on him. There's no way you should be losing 45-7 to a team with a notorious history of December flameouts like the Saints, injuries in the secondary or not.
Line on the Dallas game is running 10 to 11 in favor of the Cowboys, depending on who you look at. We shall see... I hope, for Tampa's sake, that the Giants break the malaise...
If the WWF decided to use a Super Mario Brothers gimmick...
"Mah gawd, King! Garrison Cade just bounced a fireball toward Rene Dupree!" "And look, Mark Jindrak just jumped on top of Conway's head! I think he's out cold, JR!" "What're they up to now..where did that huge pipe come from?!" "They're going down in the pipe! They're..they're gone!" --Mike Sweetser
"Oh my god, JR. Cade just shrunk after he was hit by that chair!" "Here comes RVD, King. What's that he has in that bag?" "Are those Mushrooms, JR?" "Cade's eating the Mushrooms. BAH GAWD, KING! Cade just grew twice his size!" --Mr. Tuesday
Dan Reeves had enough pride to quit instead of being a lame duck, but I guess Fassel doesn't have that same problem. I dunno if I see Fassel in Oakland, simply because he doesn't seem like an Al Davis type of guy. Maybe San Francisco or Buffalo.
Rob asks Dave and Ric if they want to go backstage to play Hungry Hungry Hippos and Flair and Batista immediately bail. Flair wants to be Green. Man, EVERYBODY wants to be green. Except the girl in the commercials. She wanted to be pink. That either means that the ad agency was sexist or that she was communist. Of course Hungry Hungry Hippos is a rather capitalist game isnt it? No self respecting communist would play Hungry Hungry Hippos. Except Stalin. He LOVED Hungry Hungry Hippos. I agree. Now all the players are coming out of the woodwork to say he should stay, he's a great coach, Blah, Blah, Blah. Maybe if they had played like a they gave a rat's ass, he would have kept his job. I imagine he won't be unemployed for long and will be much better off than this bunch of losers.
Along this line, is Acorsi about to be let go for all his personnel decisions?

That's bullshit. Jim Fassel has the integrity to finish what he started. Dan Reeves is a freaking quitter. Fassel said he would see it through to the end and I admire someone like that. Reeves? No, no at all. Quitter. He shouldn't have been paid either if he wanted to quit.
Edited to followup with Fassel doesn't have a problem with pride, Big Bad? I think you've mixed him up with Reeves. Reeves is the one with a problem of having too much ego, but not even pride in his work to finish what he started.
Here's the thing, though. The word going around was that the Falcons were going to go with a new coach next year, and Reeves said if that's the case, to let him go now. But to me, it makes no sense for Reeves to say that.
It's been widely speculated that Arthur Blank wanted his own coach in Atlanta, and wasn't to crazy about the previous owner's guy still being there. But the fact remains, that if Michael Vick is healthy the whole season, we're not even having this discussion. And if the Falcons had finished the season 4-0 after Vick's return, it would be nigh impossible for Blank to justify ousting Reeves and bringing in someone new-unless he's got a Jon Gruden waiting in the wings, which I doubt.
I don't think Reeves is a quitter. I think the Falcons gave him the option to resign or be fired immediately, and he chose the former.
So with Rich McKay on board as GM, who does he go after? He helped build a Super Bowl team in Tampa Bay, so he's gotta have some people in mind when building the Atlanta franchise.

As a Giants fan, I hope the team continues to display the heart they've shown over the last 6 weeks and do their best to tank and hope a few other teams play with pride in the quest for a Top 3 pick. Hey, if we're going to have a team that sucks and quits, at least make sure they don't screw it up and cost the team 6-7 spots in the draft.

Man, this pissed me off.

As I read my words again, they sound a bit harsh; I didn't mean to imply that Fassel doesn't have any pride, since I like Fassel and think he's a good coach. I just find it strange that the Giants would announce he's going to be fired and then ask him to stay as coach instead of just giving a coordinator the temp job for the last two games. Fassel gets to avoid being a dead man walking for the last two games and can get a head start on interviewing for next year.
