Okay, so, just a week after our draft, I'm already faced with a major trade offer.

I was offered Tomlinson and Bulger for Peyton Manning and Mojo Drew. Any deal with LT coming back is tempting, so I was wondering what others' take on it would be. How hurt is Manning? How recovered is Bulger (and, more importantly, how healthy is his O-line)? Will Mojo still be splitting time with Taylor this year?

My other quarterback (it's a two-QB league) is Brett Favre, so I expect that even if I made this deal and Bulger ended up being a stiff, I'd still get some production out of the QB position.

Anytime you can get your hands on the most consistent fantasy scorer for the past 3 years, and on his prime, for me there is no doubt you go after him. Peyton and Bulger will have similar numbers at the end of the day, Mojo will have the TDs but not the yardage plus LT gets you points also on the receiving end.

I can't imagine anyone giving up LT without kicking themselves for it later.

Take the trade before the person changes his/her mind.

What he said.

The only thing I can think of against accepting it is that the Manning/Mojo combo would be relentlessly consistent whereas Bulger/LT could be a bit more patchy because of Bulger.

I'm really just stretching to figure why someone would offer this trade though. Even in a down week for Bulger, LT's probably going to rack up enough points for you.

Honestly, it would take some pretty cruddy luck for you not to wind up ahead by taking the deal.

Well, 30 Helens (or, at least, four W-members) agree. I just hit the 'accept' button.

Hopefully Manning ends up hurt since a) it'll make this trade a steal, b) I hate the Colts and c) it'll preserve Favre's consecutive-games streak.

Honestly the only reason for this trade I can see is that they are a Colt's fan, and their family/SO told them that if they were going against Manning they would be in trouble.

I'm in 4 different Yahoo leagues, and the little "roster alert" thing is suggesting I drop Josh Scobee, D.J. Hackett and Bryant Johnson. A perfectly good kicker, and 2 guys who're probably playing sometime this season. Should I just ignore this?

Well, who are available to pick up? If it's a 10-team league there might be better players available.

Kickers are nearly impossible to predict, so if you like Scobee, keep him. I personally expect good things from Jacksonville, so he could easily be a top 10 kicker.

My numbers have Hackett as the #44 WR, and Johnson as the #33. I like Hackett, I think he's a good WR when he's healthy (and I like that he went to San Dimas High School), so he's fine as a 4th WR: he has upside, and if he does well you've got a steal; if he does poorly, you can easily cut him and replace him with someone else.
No matter what the numbers say, though, I want no part of the 49ers receivers. Some combination of Johnson, Isaac Bruce, Arnaz Battle, and Vernon Davis will get receptions, but I have no idea how they're going to be distributed.

So I am in a 10 team league and fairly new to fantasy football...so after the draft could you tell me how I did.

Starting
Brett Farve QB
LaDainian Tomlinson RB
Willie Parker RB
Antwaan Randle-El RB/WR
Braylon Edwards WR
Roy Williams WR
Antonio Gates TE
Patriots D/ST
Stephen Gostkowski K

Bench
Marvin Harrison WR
Jake Delhomme QB
Deuce McAllister RB
JaMarcus Russel QB
Ted Ginn Jr WR
Adam Vinatieri K
Kevin Boss TE

I went with the idea to get the best starters I could and then fill the bench. Didn't draft Brett till the fifth round. Thanks in advance.

I like your team except for the QBs. In most leagues, the 5th round is too soon for Brett Favre. Granted, last year he was the 5th best QB in my league's scoring system, but most people expect him to come down from those numbers this year, playing for a new team which is probably not as talented as his old team. AntSports says his average draft position is in the 10th round, where he's the 14th QB taken. Matthew Berry for ESPN thinks he'll be the 10th best QB this year. CBS Sportsline projects him as the 10th best QB. I think you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere where he's ranked much higher. I'm in a 10-team league, and I took Carson Palmer in the 8th round (and Favre went in the 11th).
Now there's no guarantee that any pick is good or bad. Projecting fantasy players is like being a weatherman, you can be wrong a lot of the time and no one cares. But I think you could have gotten Favre a few rounds later in the draft.

Now CBS Sportsline has Delhomme and Russell as the 14th and 23rd QBs, respectively. If it were me, I'd cut Russell, Vinatieri, and maybe Kevin Boss, and try to pickup maybe 2 RBs and a WR, as your backups are kind of weak, which leaves you screwed if an injury happens. Count how many teams in your league are carrying a backup K or TE. If it's less than half, then you shouldn't be carrying one either. Unless you want to carry a backup until you're sure Gates is healthy. You can always pick a guy up for the week where your starter is on bye (or if he gets injured). And I would be very much surprised if Russell is worth owning. I expect maybe 3000 yards, 20 TDs, and 20 interceptions. But I'll leave that one up to you, as I know you'll be kicking yourself (and hating me) if he somehow does well. I have no idea what players would be available for pickup though.

I'm in a 10 team fantasy league and I was thinking of making this trade. Should I do it ?

I give away:

QB Derek Anderson
RB LaDainian Tomlinson
WR Reggie Williams
K Vinatieri

I get in return:

QB Tony Romo
RB Jamal Lewis
WR Randy Moss
K Stephen Gostkowski

I don't think so. Anderson and Romo are going to be close stat wise. Tomlinson is 10x the back that Lewis is at this point. Gostkowski score a lot of PATs, and in a 10 man league you can pick up a kicker who is on a hot streak, so he's just padding the trade throwing that in.

It really comes down to who do you like more - Moss or LT? I'd stay with what you have.

//edit: Of course, if Anderson lingers on the unhealthy side and Quinn has 1 good regular season game...

I dunno.

I'd be wary of Anderson. A lot of his flashy numbers came early last season, and he was pretty sucky down the stretch. Only topped 200 yards once in the last four games and the Browns weren't exactly playing top teams in that stretch.

Teams have got a season's worth of footage on the guy now and'll be much better placed to gameplan for him.

For me, Romo's a decent upgrade over him, and Moss is a huge upgrade over Williams.

Like Guru said, the kickers are just filler, so really it comes down to whether you think those two upgrades are enough to warrant swapping LT for Lewis. Or whether you think what I just said about Anderson is anything more than ill-informed twaddle (hey, you might have a point).

I'd be tempted to do it, but probably sit tight if only because I'd be worried about the abuse I'd get if I let LT go and it didn't work out.

I'm with Guru on this one. You have to get a little more return for dealing Tomlinson.

If Anderson is not healthy, then Romo and Moss for Tomlinson makes more sense, but if Anderson is good to go, then you're giving up too much to get Moss.

Who's your other RB besides Tomlinson?

To paraphrase a guy I'm pretty sure every wrestling fan misses, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO HIS OTHER RB IS! The only way you remove Tomlinson from your roster is if he tears both quads during a game, and even then you wait a few weeks to see if they actually put him on the DL. Politely decline this one.

I think a lot also depends on the scoring system before you make that deal. I'm in one league where last year Romo was the second highest scorer in the league last season, and was almost 25% higher scoring than LT. Looking at the whole deal under one league's system you're moving:
Anderson - 312
LT - 302
R. Williams - 111
Vinatieri - 114
Total - 839

Romo - 377
Lewis - 209
Moss - 273
Gostkowski - 127
Total - 986

Honestly, I would probably make that move. I think LT and Romo and the kickers likely maintain about that level of production. I think Anderson drops a significant amount this year, and Moss and Lewis drop some, but not as much. I know it seems insane to trade LT, and generally I would agree, but this trade looks to have possible value.

edit: also Anderson appears to be possibly not 100% at season open.

edit2: in the W Yahoo league standings the trade shakes out like this from last year's value:
Anderson - 305.74
LT - 212.04
R. Williams - 87.85
Vinatieri - 118
Total - 723.63

Romo - 360.42
Lewis - 139.6
Moss - 212.65
Gostkowski - 116
Total - 828.67
