I wonder if there's been any debate over which show had the better James Woods appearance. I think James' duet with Peter put Family Guy ahead.

Was that a reference to "A Bronx Tale" when Brian first met Shauna?

Marco Polo with Helen Keller...wow.

Peter talking to Meg as if she were a dog also did it for me.

Patrick Stewart is making American Dad.

Today's Special: PAIN!!

Klaus doing director's commentary and Jeff driving away in the SUV were highlights.

Very solid episodes tonight.

I think that was a referance to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That song plays when Jeanie tells Charlie Sheen that her friends call her Shauna.

It was Ferris Buller and it drove me crazy for an hour afterwards until it finally hit me. Good episodes, both of them.

Did I read that this wasn't supposed to be the original season opener of Family Guy, but the original was pushed back due to a joke about a hurricane?

I loved Spanish Quagmire and Brian's racial awkwardness with Shauna. And the Star Trek: TNG joke only because the got the actual cast members to do it.

American Dad was good. I've always thought the show works best when Patrick Stewart's there (and Stephen Root) and when Steve and Roger are up to something. The prank calls fell kinda flat, but I laughed out loud several times. I wonder if we're ever getting the conclusion of the mini-movie at the end of that one episode last season (with the "To Be COntinued..."). Probably not.

I read the same thing about Family Guy on TVGuide.com so I guess you're right.

Two of the best parts on last night's episode were when Peter and Brian were going through all the different people as if Brian was on a gameshow until Brian finally lost and when Peter was riding in the washing machine.

Also, what was that bit during the last 10 seconds from? I know it had to be from something...

As for American Dad, it was hilarious. Patrick Stewart rules that show. I really hope we do get a continuation of that mini-movie, I thought it was hilarious.

Had to fill in my girlfriend on this one. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Joked that they were packing James Woods up next to the Ark of the Covenant.

And it was pretty much the same joke used in American Dad this summer when Roger's blind date told him he could do anything to her, and his response was something like "So I can crate you up and put you in that warehouse at the end of Raiders?"

My friend had to fill me in on it too. I've seen the movie and I just totally forgot that.

Marco.....Marco.....Marco.....Marco....Marco.....Marco

Hilarous

And American Dad had two references to The Ring, one where they got *69ed by a country that name escapes me right now, and they mentioned Rick Baker who did "certain" make-up for the movie.

I may be in the minority, but Family Guy fell VERY flat with me last night. I don't know what it was, but something just didn't click.

American Dad was great, however, and I'll join in the love for Patrick Stewart. Best part of last night's episode:

Stan: Come on! The man rode me like a horse for 3 hours without stopping! Do you have any idea what that's like?!
Hayley: ...
Stan: Oh. I'm suddenly not hungry.

X-E's co-Worst Poster of all time! JKyle.com says:

Family Guy
-------------
"Suck my ridges!" Oh Michael Dorn, do you EVER fail us?

James Woods also did a hell of a job just having a sense of humor about himself.

Stewie the Pimp... PRICELESS.

American Dad
-------------
Cheney's Blackberry. YES. Steve and Roger (Captain America reference?) always work well together.

Patrick Stewart VS Stan is another shining example of how carefully they choreograph fight scenes in their ANIMATED COMEDY show. They really don't half ass anything and that's why the show is only gonna get better.

Damn, I forgot about the premiers last night. Fox needs to start showing replays, because my Sundays are filled with PPVs and Observer Live and I have a hard time remembering to set my VCR for this wonderful, wonderful show.

While there were some highlights for Family Guy this week, there just weren't the "laugh out loud" moments that I have become accustomed to. Which is odd, because normally I don't care much for American Dad and you can count me in as one of those that was pleasantly surprised this week. Though I also agree with those that said Stewart was the highlight, which shows the major weakness of this show...the central characters don't seem to have much likability to them, or hold any interest for me personally.

Oh, and Michael Rappaport should fire his agent.

Both shows were great, but ,for overall laughs, I'd say American Dad was the better show. Like someone else said : Patrick Stewart is making American Dad.

The War at Home was amusing as well...though it seemed to steal it's gimmick from Titus.

For more hilarious Patrick Stewart, watch the Ricky Gervais series called "Extras" on HBO starting September 25th.

There's a short clip of Stewart's part at http://accordionguy.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2005/9/5/1199836.html

I didn't laugh even once at The War At Home. The muted laugh track doesn't help matters one bit. King of the Hill, you are needed...STAT!

This looks to be really awesome. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436078/ Basically, its the same joke told by a 100 comedians. Same setup and punchline, but the body of the joke is the most vile story the comedian can think up.
