I did really enjoy seeing a new episode and enjoyed the parts already mentioned above, so I won't go into any of that. The only thing that had me rolling my eyes was that the "Crazy Mel Gibson" thing was already done on South Park, and done more timely too.

In fact alot of this episode seemed to be MacFarlane saying, "Here's a bunch of jokes I came up with a year ago!" Hopefully, once he runs out of those, the show can go back to having funny, random plots (more along the line of the Stewie/Brian/Chris plot than the Louis/Peter/Mel).

I would give the edge to Family Guy when it comes to skewering Mel Gibson, based solely on the voice actor they got to play him. He nailed it! Plus the whole "using a gun to shoot open the safe containing another gun" bit just killed me.

I laughed myself sick at the whole episode.

American Dad, on the other hand, bored me into the waiting arms of Lego Star Wars for PS2.

I enjoyed FG and was happy to see a first run episode, but perhaps I was expecting too much because I kept thinking that it should be funnier. It was good and I will always tune in, but now that the hype is done, hopefully it can be as funny as it always has been.

That being said, I loved all the interaction between Brian and Stewie and almost cried laughing at Stewie's slow head turn at Brian's "upside down face" comment.

For those interested, the overnight ratings seem to indicate that Family Guy did a healthy rating (6.3), while American Dad came up short (5.3). FOX finished fourth in the 9-10pm timeslot.

It's good to have Family Guy back.

I'll come out now and say that I did go ahead and download the episode a week before when it leaked. I probably watched it about 4 times before last night, but it didn't take away from anything. That was still an awesome episode. It's always nice to have new quotes to remember too. The one in my sig and "You can't tell me what to do, you're a dog! you don't have a soul!" (along with Brian's "ouch") reply, were just a couple gems. And yes, count me in on the Ollie Williams love bandwagon. "HE GON' GET IT!"

I'm still not wowed by American Dad, but I had a couple more laughs last night than I did with the first ep. So i'll probably give it a chance and check it out after Family Guy each week.

How did I survive the last three years without "Family Guy"? It had every bit of the randomness and sick, twisted humor that I've been craving for a long time. I watched this with the little woman and she was squirming through the Gepetto joke and the Honeymooners gag (holy crap, did Ralph ever send her to the moon), which had enough twisted humor around it to get some chuckles out of me.

I gave "American Dad" another chance and am not about to give up on it. However, I should note that my girlfriend was disgusted with Stan Smith's misogynistic character. Ten minutes into the episode, I made a bet with her that there would be some redeeming value to the episode, there would be some moral introduced, and Stan would come out of the episode respecting his wife's right to be employed and, therefore, a better character.

I owe my girlfriend five bucks.

I'm convinced that a lot of people are turned off by "American Dad" because Stan's proving to be an absolutely reprehensible and unlikable character, whereas "Family Guy" has lovable goof Peter Griffin at its helm.

I thought American Dad was pretty entertaining. I liked this episode better than the post-Super Bowl one (of course I was all hyped up on Family Guy adrenaline, too).

A friend of mine made a good analogy: American Dad is to Family Guy like Futurama is to The Simpsons.

Especially since you could possibly argue that Futurama was at certain points better than The Simpsons during it's run. Also Futurama was a pretty good show by itself while American Dad is not so much.

Well, all the good writers left the Simpsons en masse for other projects at about the time Futurama began production, signalling the end of great episodes of the Simpsons.

American Dad is done by pretty much the exact same people as Family Guy, and was done during the hiatus between runs of Family Guy.

EDIT: Watched the new episode of Family Guy and it's one of the strongest of the series. It follows the usual pattern of throwing a LOT of stuff out there and seeing what stuck, but it showed more heart that the average FG ep. A LOT of the humor was topical, so I'm wondering how well this episode will age as compared to, say, "Beyond Blunderdome", the Simpsons episode with Mel Gibson. Still, I'll be watching next week.

Well, I was led to believe that a lot of the Family Guy episodes this season are actually based on scripts that McFarlane had written BEFORE the show was originally cancelled ... so it should be expected that some of the jokes will be based on "old news".

For those that don’t know, the Tiger Mask character was based on a Japanese cartoon, so Misawa stepping out of that and becoming the best wrestler in his country would be kind of like Chris Benoit doing a Darkwing Duck gimmick and then becoming the Chris Benoit we all mark over. - AWC

Finally got to watch my tape yesterday. An excellent show, but anyone who's had a dog (or 2) had to die laughing at Brian rubbing along Tommy Tucker's carpet. "Oooh, oooh yeah!"

I enjoyed American Dad this time around, more so than the post-Super Bowl episode. I think it'll just take some time for the show to pick up speed like any other series. I like the fact that Stan is not Peter, or else people would be complaining that the shows are more redundant than they already are.

And Futurama is far, far better than American Dad. Heck, I even like it better than the Simpsons, and I *love* the Simpsons.

I loved and still love Futurama and hope that maybe FOX, since it realized it's mistake with Family Guy, will bring back Futurama. A block of The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy and American Dad would be awesome.

Futurama is done. Matt Groening & Co. got FOX to bring it back just long enough for them to produce and air a proper finale.

I loved the show. The opening where Peter lists all of Fox's failed shows, the GI Joe bit and the Japetto bit were the funniest parts in my opinion.

Plus, I must say that I LOVE the Tom Tucker character. Everything from his house being covered with pictures of himself to his deadpan lines ("It's turned his whole life upside down face" .... "Well, I don't care if it's turned his life upside down face or not.") had me cracking up.

The Passion of the Christ 2 trailer was great as well.

As for American Dad, I think it has great potential, but it seems to try too hard to be over-the-top whacky. I mean, do really need a talking fish AND an alien?

I thought I have seen all of Futurama's episdoes but maybe I missed the finale. What was the gist of it?
