I'm a bit late with this, but I have to gush over this game. The graphics, music and other atmospheric details are top-notch.
As KJames alluded to in an earlier 360 thread, this game will take you many hours and days and weeks and such. I've only done like 3 quests of the main story. There are so many side quests that you can get immersed in the game without ever finishing it.
The V.A.T.S. system of taking out enemies forces you out of a Halo-type shoot em up and into a strategic body targeting mode. This was annoying for me at first, but I have come around to appreciate it.
This has to be a purchase, because there is no way to scratch the surface of the game via a rental.

Originally posted by MUTigermaskI've been trying to decide which new game to get between this, Fable, and Gears 2. This is making me lean towards Fallout.
I will say again that it depends if you have the patience and time to devote to this game. I also bought Gears 2 around the same time as Fallout, but I haven't even opened that game yet.
If Gears 2 is anything like one, it will not be a long game to complete. So if you don't have the money for both, I would recommend renting Gears 2 and seeing how it is.
If you do online gaming though, Gears is the clear choice.
BTW, I've never played Fable, so that is why I have no opinion on that game or its sequel.
